Food as Medicine: Autoimmune Disorders
A healthy diet can help the body in its efforts to heal itself, and in some
cases, particular foods can lessen symptoms. To address problems commonly
associated with autoimmune disorders (such as rheumatoid arthritis and
lupus), try the following:
a.. Decrease protein toward 10 percent of daily caloric intake. Replace
animal protein as much as possible with plant protein.
b.. Eliminate milk and milk products, substituting other calcium sources
like spinach and kale.
c.. Eat organically grown fruits and vegetables as much as possible.
d.. Eliminate polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable
shortening, all partially hydrogenated oils, and all foods that might
contain trans-fatty acids (such as deep-fried foods). Use extra-virgin olive
oil as your main fat.
e.. Increase intake of omega-3 fatty acids.
f.. Eat ginger and turmeric regularly.

Hi Nicole,
I am with you on this one 100%+++
3 years after I was diagnosed I became a vegetarian and then later I
cut out all animal products completely. I have always had he more
severe form of lupus (started with all organs 28 years or so ago) I am
sure it has helped keep me alive.
But gradually the ethical aspect became more and more important to me
and now I would not harm a sentient being knowingly. Neither will I pay
the meat/dairy industry to do it for me. As well as vetetarian I am
very careful about how much sodium I consume and avoid processed food.
