Just thought I'd share this story with all of you.
I called my friend and asked about her children who live in Galveston Beach.
Her SIL was transferred to TX and rather than trying to move the wife's
business and farm the SIL just bought a house in GB and commutes between the
two homes. When Rita threatened he asked the company, where he works, for a
few days off to prep the house in GB.
So he goes to GB and begins the process of boarding up the house and
preparing for a direct hit. Wednesday before the storm, he checks on the one
set of neighbors, an elderly couple, only to find they have evacuated. So he
checks on the other neighbor, an elderly woman with a cat who doesn't drive,
etc. He asked her if she was evacuating and she said she had no way out. He
told her she did now and to pack her bags. He came back and put her and her
things in the car along with her cat and his cat (LOL) and took off for
someplace the other side of Houston. When he had her safely ensconced in a
nice hotel with both cats he took off for his job post which had been moved
due to the storm. He told her when it was over he'd come back for her and
take her home.
Anyway, I thought it was really sweet of him to do what he did. I'm sure
there are lots of such stories of people helping other people but they just
don't make the news because they aren't sensational.

Yes I agree Bev, Seems like it is not news unless its bad. We need news like
this badly. I can imagine that depression is running rampant not only in
the Gulf area but all over the country. Sometimes it almost makes you be
ashamed to be a human.
I have heard there has been a lot of churches helping the communities too.
You probably would never here that news on a secular TV station.
Shame, but we heard stuff like during 9-11. What is the difference?
Oh well, Thank you for sharing.

Our local news carried a story yesterday about two women who have gone down
to the New Orleans area and brought back about 20 cats and dogs. They
are/were all sick. She is nursing them back to health with the help of a
local vet and when they are well she will put them up for adoption and then
go down for more. Apparently these are animals without tags or identifiers -
just homeless creatures that need love.
Also Hampton University and Norfolk State University have taken in students
from Tulane and provided the necessary scholarships for these young people.
(For those who don't know these are probably two of the finest predominately
black universities in the USA.)
I think the bigger stuff hits the news. It's the individuals who do things
without a second thought to help those around them that never receive any
recognition for what they do.
