Ok, I need help. I have a "cold" that won't go away. Doc put me on an
antibiotic. (day 5 of 10 on antibiotic) It has helped. My ears are feeling
better, my glands are not as swollen, etc. My head is still stopped up! I
cannot take any type of decongestant. I'd like to be able to breath again
through my nose. Anyone have any helpful suggestions short of sniffing salt
water which I couldn't sniff if I had to because I'm so totally blocked?
Standing in a hot shower will not even give me any relief.

OK have you tried the Vicks mentholatum? I do that I rub a little under my
nose and it sometimes helps. You cant take decongestants because of HBP? I
am guessing here they have a decongestant for people who have HBP. It is
called corricendan (sp?). Mexican foods help me when I am plugged up hot
sauce gets things running in no time..:o)

Vicks in a hot bowl of water, with a towel over your head to keep the steam in,
breathe it in for at least 15 minutes.
(some of the )Sinuses are cup-like shape.
After, lie on bed, with head hanging upside down (face first), be careful with
BP problem. (have hubby there)
If that does not dislodge, then face back.
hot soup or tea?
eat something that (usually) makes your eyes water...

there's also Vicks (nasal) inhaler (to go with you).
If your ears are blocked, flush them out with warm water.
Take a walk in cold weather - sometimes gets the dripping going.
FWIW, and YMMV

I can agree with this course of action.  Also try (if you can stand it) Icy
hot on sinuses this has helped me.
Not a doc but have had some bad colds and try not to take anything if I can.
Vicks in hot hot hot shower for as long as you can stand it.

GOOD LUCK *wishing you clear sinuses*

Being outside is better for me than being inside. Steamy showers seem to
make no difference. I'm talking total blockage.

Hope you feel better soon!

works rather good,  depanding on how congested I am  I also agree with
the other posters on using vicks, its great stuff! ((((((hugs)))))))

I've used the Vicks I smeared so much of it on I was afraid I'd get it on my
pillow and then into my eyes or something.

What is neosonephrin? OTC or Rx?

neo-so-neprin is otc it omes in a spray or drops, I find the drops works
better for me, its kinda like afrin for allergies.  I use the drops
myself.  My allergies are awful since medical no longer covers any type
of allery meds, so I use otc stuff now.  (((((hugs)))) Melody
Cindy - 17 Dec 2004 23:34 GMT
The Nasal Cort...I think is otc now...It is a steroid that will zap out the
allergies...Unlike the menthols or old dristan stuff, it actually reduces
the inflammation and fights the allergens that cause the whole nose
thing...It will also work when you have the drainage down the back of the
throat...If you have trouble finding it, you might call the doctor...He can
prescribe it...you might get Flonase, or Rhinocort....All do the same
things...The Nasal cort makes my husband a little aggressive.GRRRR. So I
don't let him have that one...Actually he does Flonase....In the hospital
they always give him Rhinocort...
Get better Sooon Bev...

Sounds like something I need! I'll look for it this weekend. Otherwise I
just might borrow my husband's drill to relieve the pressure in there. LOL

Bev, make sure it is a cordless drill.  You do not want to electrocute
yourself!
: )
Hope you are feeling better too soon!!

Dang... guess medical insurance is putting the hammer down on limitations.
Never heard of the neo-so-neprin.  I use afrin and rhinocort.  I like afrin
cause it squirts out much better but it leaves a horrid after taste when it
runs down the back of the throat.
My doctors often give me lots of samples.  Do not forget to ask your doc for
samples.  Heck, they most certainly have enough venders which come through
and mess up doc appt. schedules.  May as well get some benefit from it! LOL
