Hi Everyone,
Stumbled upon this site and have been reading with great interest the
various subjects.
I would just like to introduce myself, my name is Maria, 55, female and
suffering from Lupus, antiphospoidlipisoid syndrome, hyperlipodeamia,
cabbage in 94 and other major organs involvement.
I live in Devon UK, have 2 kids, 1 still at home. I'm coping with the Lupus
, with lots of help from carers, but otherwise on my own.
Love to hear from you.!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Maria. We're a pretty good bunch of folks. A few are there in the UK
with you and most of the rest of us are across in the pond in the USA or
Canada with just a few down under and one from Malaysia. LOL
Andy is over there in the UK and has a FAQ on his site that you will find
very helpful. I think you'll find it at http://www.northeastlupus.org.uk if
not Andy will chime in and correct my mistake. KCat would also know his FAQ.
A few folks do not have lupus or have never been diagnosed with lupus but
they find that their problems are so similar to ours that they are most
comfortable here. And that is quite fine with us. And we tend to range from
those of us with mild problems to those with some very serious ones. We've
glad to have you join us. Ask anything and someone will try to help, seems
there is always one of us who has BTDT. We also tend to vent our
frustrations here and share the positive moments, aka CGT (cheesy good
things).

You're correct - but the reason KCat knows it is that she wrote it! I
keep a copy (the words are up-to-date but I think it's still the
one-page version because my assistant webperson is having a flare).

Hello Maria,
sounds like you've had a great diagnostic team there.
(maybe I'm stunned today) but I don't have a clue what "cabbage" is (other than
a food that I sometimes eat).
Is that a typo or a Brit term?
I'm glad to hear that you have some help too.
Setlle in and join in on any chatting you wish.
Or start a new subject line if something new comes to mind.
welcome to alt.support.lupus !

HI Maria!
Welcome to ASL! I'm Maggie from the USA & I'm one of those that Bev
spoke about: I do not have Lupus, but a "cousin to" Lupus. At least
that's how the doctor's describe it. I have autoimmune symptoms
including joints, muscles, ears & eyes, foot psoriasis, attitude <smile>
& a touch of liver involvement during my worst episode, before they
could pin point an autoimmune disease. No problems since then with the
organs, however.
I'm glad you found us, Maria! Make yourself at home. I'm curious to
know what the term "cabbage" means too. : )

It is actually CABG. It is a cardiac procedure. I remember when I worked at
the clinic I remember the docs talking about it all the time. I just can not
remember exactly what it involves. I will research that one.

Coronary artery bypass grafting or "CABG" (often pronounced "cabbage") is
the most commonly performed "open heart" operation in the United States.
Cardiothoracic surgeons perform the procedure to bypass blockages or
obstructions of the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries are the blood
vessels that supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients. The heart relies on
these fuels as it works constantly to pump blood through the body. The heart
never rests like the other muscles in the body, and it demands a constant
supply of fuel day and night. The term ischemic heart disease refers to this
condition, when the heart does not get these fuels. When the heart is
sufficiently ischemic (when the shortage of fuel is critical enough), the
muscle begins to die. This is a "heart attack" or myocardial infarction.
