Ok, guys I need help. The one shoe that goes with the MOB dress feels really
tight right across the top of my big toe. The shoes are satin uppers and
dyed to match the MOB dress. How can I get some extra room in there? Any
ideas on stretching?? There is no back on these shoes.

Bev,

Do you have a shoe repair shop in town?  If so take the shoes to them and
see if they can stretch it for you.

Now if ya wanted to get cowboy boots to fit ya better I'd tell you to put
them on get them wet and wear till they dry. <g>

Hugs,
Sherry

Okay, try this on an area of the shoe that won't show first:
Apply rubbing alcohol to the *inside* of the shoe to saturate it.
If it doesn't lift the dye or stain it, go ahead with the next part.

Saturate the entire inside of the shoe with rubbing alcohol, then put a
wooden block inside the shoe positioned to stretch the area that's causing
pressure on your foot.  Let the shoe dry overnight with the block in place.
When the shoe is dry, remove the block.  You may need to gently rub and buff
the shoe with a cloth to make the satin shine again.

This is the method most shoe repair places use to stretch shoes, except that
they have specially shaped wooden blocks for stretching.  Some of them have
expansion slots that can be cranked open after the block is inserted into
the shoe.  This method works best on leather shoes, but can be used on some
cloth ones if the dye isn't too fugitive.  If your dye ran or spotted in your
first test, try simply using the wooden block without wetting the shoe.  It
won't stretch as much, but if left for a couple days may stretch the shoe
enough to give you some relief.

(I've got deformed feet *and* I wear ankle-foot orthotics.  Learning to
stretch my shoes was a survival skill.)

Lee is absolutely right!!! But the quick version is to take an old sock or
newspaper and soak them in white vinegar and cram the toes of the shoes - -
something in the vinegar allows the tissus of the fabric to relax - - the
smell will fade quickly and this is the way the pros do it (I used to be a
pro)

yes - you don't want to soak the shoe, but it will need to get ddamp and if
the only area that is a problem is across your instep then just pust at
it......
so not use a wooden stretcher unless it is covered in a sock or something
