Oh My Gosh what a weekend.
I got a phonecall late Saturday night and it was my brother having sharp
chest pain and pressure. See he is a long haul trucker and has no wife or
kids and is basically alone. I am the closest he has as far as family. Well
anyways  he was in Garden City Kansas and was sick and I am down here in
Oklahoma well I couldn't take him to the dr so I called the local hospital
and they dispatched EMTS and took him to the hospital. Then I get a phone
call saying that they are life flighting him to Wichita Kansas to St Francis
for an MI (heart attack)Here I am freaking out trying to remain calm its
midnight and I am trying to gather my things so my younger sister and I can
get to our brother.
We drive most of the early AM and when we get to the hospital we find out
that it wasn't a MI but that he was having a major gallbladder attack. I
have been back and forth to Wichita and I am worn out! He had surgery
yesterday and the gall bladder was infected and inflamed. His WBC was over
17,000. I have never seen someone take so much morphine. I guess that's the
norm when you are in that much pain. Well to make this short that's where I
have been and I will try to catch up soon.

Goodness, Rhonda!  How incredibly scared you must have been.  That was
quick thinking though!  So glad it wasn't his heart, but I understand
the gall bladder can be just as serious, if not more so.  I hope he's
well on his way to recovering & I hope you are too.  Lots of emotions to
deal with in a moments notice.  Take care to rest from the stress, k?

Hugs,
Maggie

Me, too!
Sending good vibes for a quick recovery for your brother, and for you and
your sis, too.

Just curious Rhonda, does he have to have a drain?
I had the long cut years ago, I'm still trying to figure out why I was "draining
for 3 days". (yucky stuff).
Maybe I too had an infection and why they rushed me into surgery?
Hugs, take it easy now after that chaotic and tiring weekend,
Hope your brother recovers well.
Hugs to you,
J

Rhonda - what a weekend!  It's so scary to have someone seriously ill.
How fortunate that you and your sister were in driving distance and
could be with him after the surgery.  Take care of yourself, too.

He is here at my house now. Our dad brought him back here to Oklahoma and he
wanted to stay at my house so I cleared out my eight year olds room and let
him stay in there to recover. Eight year old loves to sleep in my room
anyways. He wants to get back on the road and drive. I would if I was single
and wasn't married..:o)
He is doing better I am trying to talk him into a laxative because he has
not had bm since Friday and has been on a whole lot of morphine and Demerol.
Oh well he will ask for help if needed..:o)
Thanks guys...

Hi Rhonda,

I had my gallbladder out about two years ago, and I didn't have a bm for
over a week.  My doc said that was ok, and once I did have a bm then i
was sorry i did because then it was loose stool for a while afterwards.
But that died down too, and now all is normal (for someone with ibs
anyway ;)  )

Glad to hear he's doing ok.

When I had my GB out in 96 I remember having loose stools immed after. I
sure felt better having my GB out though. They say that the pain mimicks a
heart attack.
