I've got a cold. I real honest to goodness cold. Something I hardly ever
get. Wish I could remember which one of the cherubs sneezed on me the other
day. UCK!
Sunday was supposed to be graduation for the 4 year kindergarten but it was
rained out. Sunday night I knew I was coming down with the cold. I had a
mandatory meeting Monday morning then I was supposed to go to work because
the director had jury duty. By the time I got out of the meeting I was
pushing my limits or as the saying goes all my spoons were used up and I was
ready for bed. I stopped my the local Chinese restaurant and picked up some
egg drop soup to take to school. I no sooner got through the door and the
phone rang for the one co-worker. Her mom was asking for her. So she left.
That left me and one teacher. (The director's husband was around and very
willing to help.) Since graduation had been postponed to Monday night there
were all sorts of things to handle. Obviously the director was not getting
back from jury duty - how long would it last? The teacher who had stayed
with me was the sister of the one who had left and the mother of the
daughter battling a losing war with cancer. (Hope that made sense.) So of
course she was anxious to get out of there and see why her mother wanted
everyone. So at 5 PM she left, leaving me with a handful of kids and the
husband of the director. As the clock ticked we realized there was a good
chance the director was not going to be out in time to go to graduation. I
was so sick I just wanted to stuff tissues in each nostril and go to bed.
All kids out and I went home and climbed in bed for 30 minutes. I never
changed into a dress.
Just as I was leaving for graduation I realized the director drove up. Thank
goodness!!! Off to graduation. Naturally it is interesting trying to get
about 40 kids to line up for a little Pomp and Circumstances. All the baked
goods had to be placed on pretty trays, etc. Several moms helped, thank
goodness.
The director arrived and vanished along with the other two teachers. The one
who had left early never showed up. Geez!!! What the hey was happening????
There were not enough chairs set up. The kids were restless. One mother knew
the director and teachers had vanished behind closed doors. Something was
wrong - very wrong. The littlest ones were in one room and the cap and
gown-ers were in another. There were several moms with each group. Ok that
was under control. We finally had enough chairs. The reception area was set
up. All was as well as I could make it. By now I was pouring sweat. Fever? I
have no idea.
Suddenly everyone reappeared from behind the door. I knew without asking -
the two sisters I work with had lost their mom. The mother had refused to go
back to the hospital and only wanted to see her children first. I was so
relieved to hear that the teacher who had stayed with me did have a chance
to see her mom after leaving me and before coming to graduation. I expected
her to just quietly leave but she didn't and stayed through the graduation.
How she managed to do what she did is beyond me.
So now we are down two teachers. I'm sick as a dog. Jury duty is over for
this week. Will I survive - of course, I'm a mother and we all know that
mothers can survive almost everything. LOL
As for the gals who have lost their mom - it was expected. Of course it
always hurts but this old momma had lived a very long life. She was dearly
loved by all her children and family. She was never a wealthy woman in terms
of money but wealthy in all the things that money can't buy. The sisters are
expected to be gone for the remainder of the week and one will be out much
longer as she will have to handle all the other stuff.
No rest for me. Going to bed. Too tired to read posts.

Oh no Bev. Someone else with a cold. Mary has one and now you. Grace and
Michael have breathing problems. I wish we could get all of you on the mend.
Get some rest. I was tired just from reading about your adventures.
