Hi folks. Yep it is me AGAIN.  I am kinda sick of this crap for sure.

As you all know, I am now on imuran 100mg now since March.  ALL of a sudden
the last week, since going to the full 100mg or imuran, I am noticing dizzy
spells, as well as light headedness and just plain weakness all over. Like
I can not lift my arms and legs.  UNUSUAL for me tee hee
Well my bp was 121/60 at the time, and I am on 3 bp pills to say the least.
So called rheumy.  Now she says LOWER the imuran to 50mg and see.
I did that for 2 days and still am having problems like the above but been
taking the bp and LOW and behold it is sometimes in the 90/60 and sometimes
140/ 80 but that is rarely.  Most time it is 110/60 with a low pulse .  so
out of the blue my heart doc calls and says my OLD bp monitor says I may
need MORE medication.  I said absolutely NO NO NO.

I told them what was going on and she is thinking it is the imuran making
the bp low.  Rheumy is thinking imuran is making me feel funny.  BP is low
and I am thinking they want me on more meds?  Well that was friday and
neither doc is in.  So I am checking my bp myself and doing what I feel is
right.  NO one else will, or I will pass right out on them.

I went back up on imuran to 75, did a recheck on bp and am keeping tabs.
at night it is 118/60 and I am to take another bp med.

What the hey is going on.  I know imuran can lower bp, so anyone have
problems with this?  BJ? who else?

I am on too much meds and being a nurse, I told hubby I would like to shove
them all down the sink.  YOU guys thought I was going to say Shove .......
didn't you ?  I do feel that they are messing around with me too much.  Esp
with this bp thingy.
man oh man
help me figure this one out.  Plus I am going to their offices come Monday
for sure.
list in hand
thanks for letting me vent.

Oh Janers...biggest hugs your way.  I'm right there with you.  For BP,
I take procardia, tenormin, and clonidine.  The clonidine is three
times a day, and it pounds me.  I take 21 meds altogether.  My
endocrinologist sat me down last week and told me that I had to get
rid of some of these.  Okay with me, I say, but the nephrologist is in
control.  He said that I need to have a long talk with neph soon.

I feel for you so much.  Big, Big hugs your way.

I know very little about BP but I know low is better than high. Would a cup
of coffee help raise it a bit if it drops too low?

They're fairly tolerant of low blood pressure, as long as you're not feeling
faint, especially in smallish females.... it's sudden drops they don't like;
consistently low bp is tolerable.....or so I've experienced...

I second that. I have consistently low BP - 90/60 and a pulse that has
dipped into the high 30's when I was my most ill (most of the time it is in
the 50's). I think you are right that when a person has high BP and then it
drops low and goes back and forth they are more concerned. I wasn't allowed
out of the hospital once for awhile because of BP and pulse issues like
that. I hope they figure it out!!!

Hi Janers,
I had to read your post a couple of times, and am still not sure I have
everything straight in my mind. Forgive me if I sound Duh, with what I have
to offer. I always have had very low BP, even before my Imuran days. A
pressure of 90/60 would not be all that ususual for me. My diastolic is
often well below 60. A pressure of 110/52 would be about what I would
expect. I am not on any bp meds, so this is normal for me. Sometime I do
feel light headed and a bit staggery though. Imuran can lower your bp, but I
doubt I would reduce the dosage because of that. Your bp was still low, even
when you cut back on the Imuran---right? I would be more inclined to lower
the amount of bp med. (with doc okay) Maybe it is the combo of Imuran/bp med
that is the culprid. You may not need as much of the latter, if on Imuran.
Does that make any sense to you? As I said, I may not be totally clear on
your problem, so correct me if I am wrong in my understanding.

I wish I had that!!!!!!!! Darn I run high.
I would just keep a log of what it is running over the next two days and
call your dr back. I would take it three to five times a day and write it
down.
You might be having spells of low bp at certain times of the day. This will
help your dr to know how to change your bp meds.

HUGS and hang in there......

Hi Janers,
My sister had almost the opposite problem while on Imuran. Her pulse went up
to 180 a couple of hours every time she took Imuran (don't know about bp).
Her doc said it was a very rare side effect, but that she wasn't allowed to
continue Imuran.
Instead she was put on 6-MP, which is related to Imuran. Don't know if any
of this pertains to low bp as well, though, since it's not bad like high bp
and high pulse are.
