Some of you out there have URLs for good sun-protective clothing.  I need to
find those URLs again, and get me a hat and a cover-up for over my shirt.

If any of you have purchased these products, tell me how you like them,
Please.  This will be my first adventure with this kind of product.

Thanks in Advance

I've purchased from www.solumbra.com and www.sunprecautions.com

I have an outside job (not for much longer YAY!) and wear the jacket.

Hello Mair,
Along with Nicole's suggestions there may be more here
http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/ASLFAQ/products.htm
They were suggested by posters from this newsgroup.

I know others have specific experiences with various products, I remember
discussions about hats, shirts, beachwear, umbrella, dresses and skirts (but I
forget who/what and it's difficult to find in the newsgroup archives) and it's
quiet at the moment here
so hopefully the above helps. Best wishes and do let us know about any addition
to your wardrobe.
Hugs
J
PS Don't forget to check out their return policies first before you purchase
something, ok?

I think BJ, Janers and KCat have all purchased sun protective clothing. I'm
sure they can give you details about wear-ability, etc.

Mair - I just bought a new shirt the other day as my Solumbra shirt is
getting pretty ratty after 5 years!  yikes.  But rather than go to one of
the companies that sells this stuff exclusively, I bought a shirt from
Travel Smith.  The shirt is about $20 cheaper than Solumbra and I like the
design better.  Unfortunately, I think they run small or just don't really
have proper give in the shoulder area as I had to buy a large (I weigh 116
lbs - hardly seems a "large" to me but...)  So they weren't really designed
to be worn over anything more than a shell from what I can tell.  But there
are touches on them I prefer over Solumbra.  The sleeve cuffs have a piece
that can be tucked in or when untucked serves as a hand guard for the top of
your hands.  Good for the way I drive (not 10 and 2!)  The collar also has
an extra flap if need be.  the material isn't as soft and may be slightly
heavier than Solumbra's but I think it is equal in quality.  Not as many
colour choices though.  I like the fact that it's mesh flow-through panels
are lengthwise at the sides rather than cross-wise at the shoulders.  That
big flap on the back always felt a bit "unstylish" to me while the side
vents are not as obvious.

I have used Solumbra products as you can see for several years and they last
for a long time - the material is very sturdy and IMO you get your money's
worth out of any of these products.

I still get the looks though - today a woman just could *not* stop staring
at me as she walked by me in the parking lot.  I tried to ignore it but I
almost got angry.  I mean it was blatant and she had freakin' sunglasses on!
Which I guess she thought made it okay for her to stare. I'll give her the
benefit of the doubt though - after all, she was at *least* as old as Andy.

Have you tried washing it?

Well, you say she was walking, so there's some hope for me.

Mair I use them and they are great.  You can shop around and get
better prices than Solumbra - although there are some things that only
Solumbra carries, and they may not be as cool in the summer.

Here are some of my sources:
sungrubbies.com (have fingerless gloves, fabric and lots of other
stuff)
coolibar.com
sunsibility.com
seriouslyshady.com (for the Rit sunprotective stuff you put in the
wash for your regular clothes.  Gives an SPF of 30 for 20 washings.
About $4 a load)

You can find good deals on hats and sunprotective clothes at these two
sites, but you have to search through all their other stuff:
campmor.com (I've found a couple hats here)
sierratradingpost.com  (good deals on shirts and pants sometimes)

My sister found an SPF 50 beach umbrella at here Linens and Things in
North Carolina for $12.99 (with a coupon).  I haven't gotten in here
to look yet.

Some golf and sporting goods stores (like REI and Gallians -spelling?)
also carry sunprotective clothing.  They aren't cheaper than the
catalogs, but you can at least try them on and avoid shipping charges.

Happy Shopping!
