Has any one experience a NON tolerance for the smell of meat. I mean
cooking it, or eating it, or what ever.
I noticed lately that I made some chops last week, when I got to get them
ready to fry up, the smell made me ill. But I did eat a part of one but the
taste was NOT the same. I LOVE PORK chops.
Then I fried up some ground chuck for spagetti sauce, the same thing.
Smell just didn't seem right.
So today, I had marinated my steaks. Ron put them on the gril, and when he
brought them in, I thought they smelled odd. I took ONE dang bite and
gagged my way back to the sink. I could not eat them. I LOVE
STEAK>>>>>>>
I couldn't stand the smell of the steak so he had to move it to the other
side of the table.
So far MEAT Is the only smell I can' t stand?
Is this for real here? I have been on imuran for about 6 weeks, seems to
really help relieve my fatigue. Joint pain is another story but then I am
just now at 100mg and going for 150 for the max I need. Nausea is still
bad in am after taking it.
ANYONE else with this smell and taste stuff.?
thanks'

forgot to say, this started when going on imuran. So I take it, that it is
from that and nothing else. Cause it is the only new thing I am on.
ugh
janers, who loves meat....

I am that way myself. I think it is the Methotrexate that is making me have
odd taste and smell.
I do that I love steak and pork chops but since I 've taken MTX I cant stand
pork chops or the smell of them. It reminds me of when I was preg with my
last child. I couldn't stand the smell of meat or cooking meat.

I wonder if taking it (Imuran) at night instead?
I saw someone (in Google ) on another newsgroup say that.
they also said the half-life is 6 hours - so by morning the worst of the nausea
is gone?
And it makes sense because as soon as I saw Janers post, it reminded me of being
preg and nausea /and not wanting to eat (aversion to certain foods) is sometimes
worse in the morning?

Doc said in am, due to the fact we eat then. With my gut this has to be
LOL. I have to eat or else for sure.
I have meds for nausea but am trying NOT to take them if at all possible.
But the smell and taste of meat is NOT a good thing. But I still can eat
ice cream...hahaha
To combat the nausea, I am to divide doses when getting up there so from
now on, I will add the next doses at noon. OH boy....
me who else

put something you like/can tolerate the smell of under your nose, so you
can't smell the meat.

Only when I tried Atkins diet around the holidays. I'd be so
nauseated after cooking dinner, I couldn't eat. When I added more
veggies and a few carbs, that went away. I never thought about Imuran
being the culprit.
I know your doctor told you to take Imuran in the morning because you
eat then, but don't you eat dinner, too? I eat more for dinner most
days than for breakfast. I do take my 175 mg in the morning, without
nausea. But my doctor, and pharmacist hubby, said it didn't matter,
as long as I get it in. Splitting it up between meals is a good idea,
but does it mean you are queasy all day then?

Hi Gretchen and BJ
I usually eat a better breakfast than I do a lunch. Or do you mean a
dinner. See my lunch is also my dinner haha. NO lie here in the country.
We have supper, which is usually the dinner most talk about. Comes about
6pm. So go figure. But I do eat a good breakfast cause I take so many
pills everymorning it would choke a horse. "NO comments please"
I did take a zofran yesterday, cause I could not stand it anymore. It
seemed to really help the nausea. I will try to figure out what is best
for me.
I do know I might go with 75 in am and 75 in at dinner time. Meaning noon
LOL well ok, lunch then.
My grand daughter gets a big kick out of this lunch dinner, supper stuff.
She is from the city and she laughs when we talk about "what we having for
supper" she then says, maw maw, don't you mean DINNER? yeah ok, Dinner.
sorry to confuse you all this morning but I had to make your day
have a good one.
I will try also

Okay Janers. I mean supper/dinner/6pm. That is usually the biggest meal of
the day for most people. Pig out then. Take Imuran all at once. See if you
feel like hurling. <g>

I agree with you Gretchen. I eat more at dinner than I do in the morning. I
take all of my 150mgs of the Imuran with my evening meal. It doesn't put me
off my food at all. In fact, I do my best grazing in the evening before
bedtime. I would try taking it in the evening, if I were Janers.

Hi,
Yes, the smell of meat makes me just about vomit, whether cooked, or raw.
But I have been a vegetarian for many years and am probably highly
sensitised. I can't even see it in a shop window without feeling ill.

Hi Janers!
I'm late on this, but I took Imuran for quite some time. My highest
dose was 250mg. I don't recall that meat was a specific culprit in my
daily battle with nausea, but I would get nauseated just trying to think
about what I could eat on any said day. I would say the Imuran is most
likely the cause. I don't know how to explain the connection between
the physical & mental relations of nausea, but they are SO related. If
you can't eat it in your thoughts, then you'd better not take it to the
mouth. LOL!
I so agree with others about taking it with supper.<wink> I always
split my dose up & I did fairly well on 150mg. I believe it's well
worth the try. Good luck, Janers!
Hugs,
Maggie
