I probably misspelled remacade. Oh wth,
I found out today that I am having to wait for my ins co to reapprove my
remacde for 2004.
While I am in waiting I have been off of the med since Dec and I am now in
severe pain and discomfort. My legs hurt from the knees down and the bottoms
of my feet just hurt. Maybe RD can give me something to get me by until they
get approval. I can hardly walk right now and I am exhausted from the pain.
It is wearing on me the past week, I guess thats why I have been lurking
more than posting.
Venting here and whining a bit.........

of trouble in the mean time. or if they are close enough, maybe they
have samples?

Hugs Rhonda,
Wish you'd said so earlier Rhonda,
Some places maybe to check - I cannot vouch for any of them but I've heard of
some who've gone to this first one for emergency relief.
http://www.modestneeds.org (might be worth a try, takes some time, one time
only assist, needs a quote or bill)
http://www.institutedc.org/pd370r4.htm (I don't trust this one because I think
one has to buy a book first)
http://www.themedicineprogram.com/ ???
http://www.cpmission.com/gallery.html ???
http://www.needymeds.com/programs/remicade.html (might be worth a try as long as
there's no strings attached).
If any of the above ask you for money first, ignore and check out the others.
These were posted to the fibromyalgia newsgroup, so I haven't used them myself
so don't know the experience (good or bad).
I'm also wondering if there's a generic equivalent of Remicade that might be
less expensive and might get you through for a bit. A drug store might be able
to tell you and compare the prices of both for you.
Hope you find some relief soon.
Hugs

I wish it were that easy to take this stuff, but it is by infusion and I
have to get it through the drs office or an infusion center. Last fall when
I was on it one infusion was 5000.00. I had three in twp months.
I will check out the links to see if they are of help for me. Just waiting
on Ins approval is crazy and they tie it up to see if I will decide not to
take it.

For some reason my PPO plan is requiring a yearly review of my diagnoses to
see if I still need Remacade. It really works very very well when I am on it
and when I am not boy does my RA act up..it even helps the Lupus flares in
my case.

Okay Rhonda, I think you can forget about the above website, because I think I
recall their maxmum assist is $500.00
This poster gets it through her doctor's office at much much less cost.

The two most frequent newsgroups I see posts about that are
news:alt.support.crohns-colitis and
news:alt.support.arthritis
so if you want to post on either/both and post what area you live, perhaps
someone on one of those newsgroups would tell you which doctors they can get the
same arrangement with?

Hi Rhonda,
Sorry you're not feeling well. Can you ask your RD for some cortisone shots
in the worst joints or maybe a Medrol pack?
Regarding Remicade, the risk of having an allergic reaction increases if
you've had a prolongued break between the infusions. Please ask your RD if
you need pretreatment with cortisone and antihistamines, and make sure they
have adrenaline and cortisone handy at your next infusion (if they don't
have it already). They can also slow down the drip rate. Methotrexate also
lessens the risk of allergic reaction (although it apparently didn't in me)
Some people on the arthritis group have been able to take up Remicade again
after a treatment break without problems, though, some have had allergic
reactions.
Both my sister and I developed antibodies against the mouse portion in
Remicade after having a prolongued treatment break, so we both had allergic
reactions (she anaphylactic reaction, I serum sickness) and the antibodies
had also rendered Remicade useless in us.
About the insurance stuff, ask over at alt.support.arthritis. I see threads
about that there all the time. Can't give you any useful advice since I'm in
Sweden. Would it be easier for you if you were on injectibles like Enbrel or
Humira? They work similarly to Remicade, but you take it at home, just like
an insulin injections.

Hi Rhonda!
Sorry you have to go through all this red tape to get some relief. I
just hope the 'meantime treatment' will be adequate pain relief for you.
<shaking head> It just ticks me off! I just can't see how they can
treat people like this.
