What pain relievers can I take with 50 mg Vioxx? I am afraid to take
anything, this is a new prescription...
Any suggestions?

If you're looking for over the counter? tylenol? that's about it. All
NSAIDs are basically the same. Keep the tylenol under 4 grams a day for
healthy livers.

Viox is a pain reliever... an anti inflammatory.... if you need
more coverage ask your doc to up the dosage or change meds to a
different NSAID.
You can take most narcotic analgesics with nsaids but I don't
know about combining nsaids due to liver and kidney impairment -
potentially.

YES! My pharmacist recommends using Tavist.
Good luck! Also, no hot water on the area that itches... that makes it seem
worse, for me anyways.

I usually get the itching when taking lortabs, but I never experienced it
with just the vioxx...
Hugs Cindy.
Also, my sil that has a liver disease has problems with itching.
The doctor prescribed her a low dosage of neurotin...
It helps.

Hi again,
Well, over the past few days I've really crashed- from pain to a constant
"buzzing" all over my body, and ringing in my ears. My blood pressure has
been really high, then really low... I slept all day yesterday and all
night last night. Got very dizzy and almost fainted a few times. Ugh! I
have been extremely thirsty-- can't get enough water, even when I've had so
much my stomach hurts. I've been so confused I can't understand what
they're saying on the news. My words don't feel like my own. Like I've
travelled into a transcendental state... The itching is better, after I
took some Zyrtec. I read the Vioxx side effects this morning (after taking
today's dose) and see that many of these are side effects of Vioxx. But
why would I have them so many weeks into my therapy? I was on 50's, and
doc just lowered me to 25's the other day.
Any suggestions?

I have been on a regimen of NSAIDs plus Tylenol plus Ultram, which is a
different kind of pain reliever, and "internal opiate agonist." I was on
the Ultram and Tylenol both when I did my trial of Vioxx (which did not work
for me), so I assume it is safe to take these medicines together. This is
just my experience. Check with your doctor. Be sure the Vioxx is working
for you--it did not work for me. Ultram is a good drug for pain, but it is
not an anti-inflammatory. It is important that you have a medicine
relieving your inflammation, because that is what does the damage in lupus.
There are tons of different NSAIDs; make sure you are using one that works
on you.
Feel better!
