ASL FAQ - UK clone

The UK clone of the ASL FAQ Mark IV is now available at

http://www.northeastlupus.org.uk/katfaq

The text is 99.95% the same as the Schwerpunkt edition; URLs pointing
*to* parts of the northeastlupus site have been rewritten as you're
there already!

Comments invited, therefore, but mainly on "does it work" rather than
"this bit is medically wrong" or "I wouldn't have done it that way" :)

does what work?
I clicked on the web site and it works.
I clicked on the url to the Mirror site on the main page and it works (it
stays where it is).

I believe he meant a general "does all of it work?" - do links fail?
can you see it properly laid out? etc.  It will look like  it "stays"
but it doesn't of course and when you click the link to the Mirror it
you are actually going to andy's server.  The only obvious change is a
bit of wording he's added to indicate that you are on the mirror site
and no longer on my server.

Apologies for my shorthand :)

Good!

Ah. It's pointless having that as a link - I must have forgotten to
rewrite that line. Will do.

Wonder no more :)

When I click on http://www.dermnetnz.org/pre/dna.vasculitis/vasc.html
(under Symptoms) on yours it works.
When I click on same on KC's I get an error as follows:

on both copies (KC's and yours) I get an error in Treatments on these

Maybe someone else can check both copies of the FAQs and see if they get the
same

http://cbshealthwatch.aol.com/cx/viewarticle/232995_1

Thanks; I'll have a look.

However, I vaguely recall that aol articles are only available to aol
subscribers - if so that would explain it.

I agree with you Andy. That is the explanation.
I tried to get in but was told 'AOL users only' for those 2
links.

Well, I don't recognize "compuserve" as being AOL, so perhaps if they
are to stay in the FAQ, it should read "for AOL'ers only".  Otherwise it
could result in the future in more inquiries and/or frustration.

Is that the reason they are there, are AOL'ers not able to read other
urls that the rest of the world can?
If AOL'ers can read other urls, is there something special mentioned in
those particular urls that we can't find elsewhere on urls that are
readable by most of the world <g>

Both those URLs point to the same server 216.33.50.152. That IP address is
owned by Cable & Wireless. Traceroutes fail beyond another C&W server.
Pings are unanswered. I'm guessing this means the server is not online.
Also that it doesn't belong to aol or compuserve, its not in any of their
IP blocks. Either the server has failed or has been dropped by the owner.

I think the links should be dropped from the FAQ. Sad that we lose a couple
of good articles but better not to frustrate users. JMHO.

That's not necessarily an indication of non-existence: I believe that
many servers don't reply to pings in order to prevent denial-of-service
by a malevolent pinger.

That's a more positive reason :)

I'll put them on Final Notice: speak up or get dropped.

I've asked a guru I know, who has an AOL account, to look at them...
they ain't there.  OK, out they go.

OK; I haven't had time to check them yet but I will.

No, it's the other way round, I am told: AOL has a "closed garden" in
which only AOLers may stroll, and also allows them trips to the outside
world.

Someone with AOL access will have to answer that.

There was a coding error at that point. KC knows and will fix hers.

weird - I know I did fix it.  I guess the change didn't get uploaded
or something.  Or maybe I fixed it then forgot to save the file.
Wouldn't be the first time I did something stupid like that.

Or the old version is stuck in some ISP's cache. <scratches head;
removes yuck from keyboard> what's the way to force a cache flush?
Control-refresh or shift-refresh I think, done by the reader on their
browser.

I couldn't possibly comment.

Right, shift-refresh on mine.

Spent 40 minutes changing about 20 settings in an HVAC controller
yesterday. Then there was trouble with other operations. Re-downloaded
program to control. Oops, all those changed settings returned to the
original.  You are not alone Kcat. LOL
