Well, I don't recognize "compuserve" as being AOL, so perhaps if they
are to stay in the FAQ, it should read "for AOL'ers only". Otherwise it
could result in the future in more inquiries and/or frustration.
Is that the reason they are there, are AOL'ers not able to read other
urls that the rest of the world can?
If AOL'ers can read other urls, is there something special mentioned in
those particular urls that we can't find elsewhere on urls that are
readable by most of the world <g>

Both those URLs point to the same server 216.33.50.152. That IP address is
owned by Cable & Wireless. Traceroutes fail beyond another C&W server.
Pings are unanswered. I'm guessing this means the server is not online.
Also that it doesn't belong to aol or compuserve, its not in any of their
IP blocks. Either the server has failed or has been dropped by the owner.
I think the links should be dropped from the FAQ. Sad that we lose a couple
of good articles but better not to frustrate users. JMHO.

That's not necessarily an indication of non-existence: I believe that
many servers don't reply to pings in order to prevent denial-of-service
by a malevolent pinger.

That's a more positive reason :)

I'll put them on Final Notice: speak up or get dropped.

they ain't there. OK, out they go.

OK; I haven't had time to check them yet but I will.

No, it's the other way round, I am told: AOL has a "closed garden" in
which only AOLers may stroll, and also allows them trips to the outside
world.

Someone with AOL access will have to answer that.
