My feet HURT!  Does this happen to you?  What do you do?
Also, my body is so swollen (no steroids either). I've been using an OTC
diuretic and drinking lots of water... but nothing.  My fingers look like
sausages.  My clothes don't fit, feet are hurting, hands hurt so much I have
to hold them up.

I take pain meds (along w/lots of other stuff) but not even the pain meds
are touching it.
This isn't the first time this has happened but the first time it's lasted
more than one day.
Could it be a circulation problem?

I don't know what to do to make my feet stop hurting.  Any ideas are greatly
appreciated!!

*See a doctor for medical advice - what follows is anecdotal*

I have two factors contributing to my edema: venous stasis (really
crappy circulation) in my left leg and advanced kidney disease. The
venous stasis can cause my left leg to be up to four inches larger
around than my right (and make my ankle disappear!), and the
kidney-related edema is in mostly in my face and hands. I take a lot of
Lasix for it (120mg). I still get the swelling, though, just not as bad.

If, along with the swelling, you have a sharp pain in your thigh(s)
and/or trouble breathing, or wet, bubbly sounds when you breathe, you
could have a serious medical condition and need to seek emergency
medical attention.

Hi Nicole, you need to see the doctor immediately!!! I don't think it is
circulation problem. Make sure the doc. tests your kidney function as well.

Take care, Bin

Yup, this happens to me!  Feet hurt so badly I can't walk, or put pressure
on them, like they're burning.  Also they hurt when my lymph nodes are all
swollen- then they feel like I'm walking on rocks.
I am so swollen right now (and it's been getting worse for about 6 months
now)...  I wish I had an answer for you.  My doc says that my estrogen
level is 750+ so that could cause the swelling and tenderness.  Who knows?
I go through periods were my skin hurts, and that's horrible.  What pain
meds are you on?

I take Norco (10mg/325mg) 3 tab, 4 times a day.  50mg Vioxx and 10mg
Flexeril tid

I flare really badly around my menstrual cycle... so it's been suggested
that I try skipping it.  Going to use the Nuva Ring.

I had no idea they could test to check your estrogen (or other hormone)
levels.  I would love to see where I'm standing.

Feet are still hurting... ice, heat, elevation, etc.
No word back from the dr yet.  Still waiting.

Thx
Nicole

Hi again,

I'm sorry your feet still hurt.  I know how awful that can be!  I take
the Vioxx too, 50 mg...  Cardizem (for heart), Ultram (for pain), Zyrtec
(allergies), and Lexapro (antidepressant)...  It sounds like if you're
flaring around the cycle, that's right after your estrogen peaks and
progesterone (I think) takes over...  you might have something there in
avoiding that part of your cycle.  Ask your doc to test estrogen at
different times of the month and see where you stand..?
Good luck and I hope you feel better SOON!

Have you noticed whether your symptoms go DOWN .. after .. ?

Porphyria cutanea tarda with menopausal exacerbation: the possible role of
menstruation as natural phlebotomy.

Department of Dermatology, Kobe University School of Medicine, Japan.

We describe a 48-year-old woman with a 12-year history of porphyria cutanea
tarda who showed a remarkable exacerbation of her eruptions accompanied by high
serum levels of iron and ferritin at menopause. As iron storage is known to be
a triggering factor of porphyria cutanea tarda, the possible role of
menstruation as natural phlebotomy to prevent porphyria cutanea tarda
exacerbation is discussed.

Where have I heard this before? in the FAQ and KC....
Maybe if people see a pattern, they can take anticipatory meds..
