It is connected to a HIS, lol.
I don't know about Orchard but a LIS is a Laboratory Information System.
Most laboratory instruments are connected to a LIS in which all data is
stored. The test is run with the specific instrument and results are
temporarily stored until we accept the results after reviewing them. By
Accepting those results they get transmitted to the Hospital Information
System or HIS where they then become available to be viewed by Doctors and
Nurses.
In short these are computer interfaces between the instrument performing the
test, the LIS, and the HIS. There are different companies offering each
with differing computer programs. Most are DOS with the newer ones being 16
bit and 32 bit with windows GUI's.
Why do you ask?
