http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sci_bio_microbiology/ - a new group for any
microbiology topic. Research topics in here, please.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/C_E_Clinical_Microbiology/ - an established
clinical micro group - topics related to the clinical microbiology
laboratory (not research) and originally established for a continuing
education source for medical technologists who work in hospital or other
clinical microbiology labs. Researchers are welcome, but topics will have to
stay in the clinical lab realm, as the majority of members are MT (ASCP)
techs, their equivalents, and some pathologists.

I moderate both groups. This means you must be approved to be a member. No
spammers or off-topic posts allowed. There is leeway, certainly, but you
know what I mean......:-)

Begin to discuss micro again without all the Usenet grief! Please be patient
with the approval process. You will be rewarded by a discussion group that
stays on topic.

Spammers, flamers, and other weird off-topic posts will be cut and poster
will be banned. Sorry to be so blunt, but this is how it is. Micro people
are busy and don't have time for all the other stuff.

Hope to see you on the group.

Is there much haematology / general training / lab management discussion, or
is it purely micro?

This group was set up originally to be a source for online continuing
education for micro people, and this is what it continues to be, i.e. all
micro. If you'd like general lab discussions, there's MEDLAB-L, which
includes lots of management stuff. Write me off list (take the 'nospam' out
of my email address) for directions to get on this list. It is NOT an
anonymous list and you must use your real name to post there, but it is
active and there are over 2000 members from all over the world. It is also
well-moderated and there are some simple posting rules that are enforced by
their moderator. You get a list once your subscription goes through.

There are also some other Yahoo lab groups. You can go to Yahoo, Groups,
then search topics by key words. The most important thing, before you sign
up, is to go to the group's home page and check how many postings there have
been in the last few months. Active groups should have postings at least
weekly, although sometimes this varies. They should also have a fair number
of members, although again, you can have active groups with small numbers if
all post. You can try them out and quit if they're not what you want. I know
that one of my C_E members has a number of other micro groups that she
moderates.

Hope this helps.
