When testing a speciment for cardiac enzymes CK and CK-MB, would the
tests
for total CK and CK-MB be run at the same time, and reported at the
same time,
or would you do one test and then at a later time do the second one.

Thanks,

Terrie

Some places still report ratios of CKMB/CK so yes you would do both at the
same draw. We have a cut-off on when to do a CKMB based on the CK and when
the floor only orders a CKMB we have them add on a CK. If the CK is above a
certain value then we do it and if not then cancel the test.
The timing of draws for cardiac markers are important in getting them into a
cath lab as soon as possible for intervention so adding on CKMB's to very
old specimens is not really helping much.
