SGOT  69
SGPT  89

The above results where from a recent screening.  Both are high, but
I'm not sure what it means.  I have been on a low carb diet on and off
over the last year or so...can this have and affect?  Any feedback
would be great. thanks

1) Are you weight lifting?
2) Do you drink alcohol?
3) Have you asked your doctor?

I've been low carbing for many months and mine are only elevated after a
good, heavy weight workout, or if I over-indulge on a weekend off on a
few too many margaritas. ;-)

It ain't from the low carbing.

The obvious question I have is why were both of these ordered?
You usually only have one on a chemistry panel and both are usually on a
hepatic panel. Somebody was specifically looking at the liver for what?

Our routine Comprehensive panel has both of these on it. :-)
If he had a liver profile, it should have had GGT as well.
I'd be curious to what that was...

He never did answer Om's questions!

I would personally question that in terms of a medical necessity panel in
which each analyte must be justified and with two transaminases on a general
chemistry panel .....but then again When in Rome......

Most never do and we end up having internal discussions.

I think at this point, the content of each named profile (the others are
lipid profile, liver profile, renal profile and basic profile) are
dictated by Medicare... :-)
