About 3 weeks ago, they canned the "new" director that was destroying
our lab..... (YAY!). The two guys that are currently running the lab in
the interim cornered me yesterday and bullied me into taking the
hematology supervisor position back since they girl I've been trying to
train for the position for the past year just was not cutting it.

<sigh>

She can't seem to get the hang of dealing with numerical QC or stay
organized enough to keep up with proper reagent inventory or updating
the procedure manual to be compliant with some of the new CAP questions.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about it........

I have seen promotions to techs in their 20's, 30's and 40's. They all seem
to have the jitters about added responsibility. I'm sure you will do just
fine - you do seem to have a certain idea about how things should be done.
Just remember that you are now a boss and while you can still be friendly
you can't let that interfere with what you need to do.

Congratulations and good luck.

Heh, good point. ;-)

I'd had the position for about 14 years I think, (I don't really
remember at what point they dumped it on me and I've worked there for 18
years) and the new boss took it away from me because he got this bug up
his hiney that he wanted all his section supervisors to be on day shift.
I've worked swings for my entire career.

And due to the shift differential, it would have meant a $7,000 per year
pay cut to move to days. :-P

Now that he is gone, they are giving it back to me and letting me stay
on swings! I mean come on... I've passed every cap inspection for the
past 14 years, so what did working swings have to do with me being able
to do  my job????

I'll be able to handle it again ok. Was just not sure I really wanted it
back!

Some people are so weird. Gods I miss my old boss! He is enjoying his
retirement tho'. His cousin lives in Monterey and is wealthy. ;-)
