> Benadryl - as in the cough mixture?
I've never heard of a Benadryl cough mixture. Benadryl is the histamine
blocker (allergies and the like).
Also, I clearly stated tablet/cream form, so that would preclude 'cough
mixture'.

Makes me wonder if you read my post at all.

Mate, I read your post, and here Benadryl is a cough mixture.
Yes, I saw genital, but also have heard of people trying many strange
things on genital cold sores.
And again I ask why Benadryl - herpes is not an allergic reaction!

First of all ~ the only medications approved to treat herpes simplex virus
sores are Valtrex, Acyclovir, and Famvir.

And second of all?
My anonymous reply-to address unfortunately doesn't let you know that
I'm not a newcomer here, but not all of us have access to prescription
medications. (I think it's a shame that, unlike other parts of the
world, acyclovir isn't over-the-counter.)
I was hoping that Benadryl might stop the itching, but Grant already
answered my question.
Thanks anyway.

Hi Anonymous,
I use ibuprofin for the pain and it works quite well. Other people have used
listerine - the mouth wash - original flavor - on the sores to help with pain.
I don't THINK benadryl will help with the itch but it wouldn't hurt to try it.
I know some women who use it for itches that are not allergy related and it
works for them. Give it a try and let us know. I don't know if I would use the
cream, though. You may want to try the pills, instead. I'd stay away from the
cream only because it isn't supposed to be used on genital skin - at least as
far as I know. Perhaps reading the tube will give you more insight.
Let us know what you decide.
