Now I'm really confused about HSV1

I was reading a book called Managing Herpes: A chronic STD and living and
loving with it. I read that people with type 1 usually get 1 outbreak a year
and with type 2 you get 4-5 a year. Well I have had this about 7 years and I
always seem to get about 4-5 a year. Maybe the first year I had more but I
don't remember. My last test showed antibodies for HSV1 and the HSV2 field
only had an asterisk so I guess that means none found? My symptoms are
pretty much mild compared to some people I read about except for my last
monster outbreak. I just get some extreme itching, and tingling and hives
that turn into open sores and they are pretty much always in the same place
although they have moved slightly in that area. If I only have HSV1 then why
am I still getting 4-5 a year like clockwork? What is happening? Or am I
reading the test wrong and I could have HSV2?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

Skip those ridiculous blood tests that your doctor is ordering and tell him you
want the real deal.  Tell him you want the Herpes Specific Western Blot blood
test.  It will tell you what you have and you won't have to guess anymore.
Also, get cultures done.  That will tell you what you have and you won't have to
guess anymore.

Everyone's body handles the virus differently.  Don't compare yourself with
anyone else.

We still don't actually know if you have herpes only.  You may have something
else going on there.

Take care,
ar

Hello ar,

Well I am kind of tired of getting tests, because the second time they
didn't order the right one. I could get a culture done, but I am so tired of
going to clinics also and I think I am just going to tell my main doctor and
ask for meds. As far as viral indicators: I know I have had Chicken Pox as a
kid, I know that I have Epstein Barr Virus from a blood test, and I know I
have genital HPV from a skin doctor diagnosis, and HSV1 (according to the
first test IgG levels although borderline), and I know that the symptoms are
genital only for the herpes.

I think I may also have a prostate problem going on, because of the
difficulty in urinating and other symptoms such as a pressure sensation
going from the lower back under the leg to the groin. I am continuing on
vitamins and a special pill that has things for prostate health, resting,
and eating well, avoiding caffeine and chocolate. I have had prostate
problems in the past, but this was aside from the genital herpes condition
that happened with the more minor outbreaks. I think what may have happened
is I had a minor outbreak from the herpes as I usually do and then it
spurred a really big one that triggered something in the prostate also. I
don't know how likely a herpes outbreak can spur a prostate problem, but I
guess it is possible?

Thanks,
Tom
