Positive Test Result :-(

Doctor took a swab of what seemed to her was only in-grown hair and the test
came back positive.  A day later about 3-4 blisters appeared around the same
spot (the swab test from that came back negative).

This first outbreak seems relatively mild (externally).  I only have a few
blisters and for some reason swollen/itchy anus but no blisters down that
part - or maybe I just don't see them?  The most painful thing was during
urination which went away after 5 days.  I'm hoping that if this is the
worst outbreak since it is the first, then my recurrent ones won't be so
bad.

I cried when the doctor told me that it is most likely herpes but now I'm
all cool with it.  I don't feel as dirty as I used to feel.  I mean, I still
have that little bit of regret for sleeping with a guy without condom but I
can't go around kicking myself about it for the rest of my life.  I still
wish it was "only" Chlamydia though but the test came back negative for that
std.

This won't help my almost non-existent sex life though.  I hardly ever sleep
around (up until last month, last time I had sex was this time last year)
but I guess misfortune has struck me this time.  Still thankful that it
wasn't HIV.

It's a new chapter in my life from now onwards.

Hi May,

You said some very powerful things in your post.  You can't kick yourself for
what has already happened.  All you can do is move forward from here.

Take care,
ar

If you're like most folk, you'll find that it'll eventually become a
non-issue for all practical purposes. The worst part is not the
infection or the disease, there are remedies for that, but the
attached stigma due to the pervasive igorance. It's a little
frustrating and we all deal with that a little differently.

As far as dating and social life, there are H-groups in many cities of
the country that hold get togethers now and then and stay in touch
online with message boards and chat rooms. The friendships formed
there can be some of the best you'll find anywhere. If you haven't
checked into that sort of thing, a good place to start is on:

Glad to hear you're bouncing back quickly.
Laters,
M2
