Hi All,
Since reading a New Scientist article almost two years ago -
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn1971 - I have been using
aspirin whenever I feel symptoms - either after the blisters come, or
when I get "pre-symptoms" - an hour of profound drowsiness and the
rest. I have found it to be extrememly effective.
For several years I had chronic attacks - about 1 a month - so I had a
ready supply of zovirax (acyclovir) 800 or 400 mg tablets and the
cream. These have always worked, but with a certain delay, typically
symptoms would start receding after 10-12 hours.
Aspirin on the other hand seems to have an immediate effect, whether or
not the blisters have started, in fact applied topically as a paste,
aspirin seems more effective than even zovirax cream.
The effect does seem to be both more immediate and shorter in duration
than acyclovir - but I keep taking aspirin thoughout the day at the
highest recommended levels (3 or even 4 tablets at 300 mg - 3 times or
even 4 times a day) and the attack has normally passed within 2 days.
Has anyone else tried this ?
Can anyone suggest anywhere else I could post this ?
Hope it helps.
Best regards, Kevin.

Cool. I hadn't seen that before; thanks for sharing!
Supposedly, there are long-term effects of aspirin use, such as macular
degeneration, but I'm not sure where real studies of that are.
I'm ready to try this, thanks again.
