Hi, rll.
There is no such test.
However, you may be able to find out whether or not you have just
recently become infected. You'll need to find a doctor who can give
you one of the type specific blood tests that also return response
type as one of the results. In "response type" I refer to two of
the main antibody responses the immune system throws at just about
any foreign invader. In the case of HSV these are the IgM and IgG
antibody responses.
When the immune system detects any invader that it has never seen
before it does not automatically have the right kinds of antibodies
on hand to destroy that invader. It has to reach into its bag of
tricks and specifically tailor something for each particular kind of
foreign body. One of the first things it will do is pump out
specifically designed IgM antibodies to begin the fight, but the
IgMs are just a temporary sort of fighting force. The body will
also start to put in place a more permanent defense against the
invader, one that can be called up at a moments notice if that
invader is ever encountered again. The antibodies associated with
the more permanent immune response are the IgG antibodies. The body
also creates other disease-specific entities such as T-Cells, but
for testing purposes, you only need to know about the IgM and IgG
antibodies.
So, the IgMs are manufactured first and the IgGs come along later,
and sort of take over the fight, making the IgM response redundant.
At some point or other the body ceases IgM production, but continues
producing the IgG antibodies for as long as they are needed (in the
case of HSV, more or less forever, though perhaps at varying levels,
as needed). Therefore, if you submit your blood for an adequately
sensitive test, and it shows an IgM response, you may *surmise* that
your infection is somewhat recent. If there is no IgM response you
might come to the conclusion that the infection is of somewhat
longer standing. There would be no guarantee that you would be 100%
correct, but, coupled with your history, you might be fairly sure
with the added information (assuming the tests return accurately, of
course).
Hope that helps,
Mike
The only way to know if you have recently been infected is if you have a
positive culture and a negative type specific blood test. Otherwise, there
really is know way to know when you were infected. (Assuming you have been
with more than one partner in your lifetime.)

The herpes blisters do form in very small clusters, but usually only
release a clear liquid.
Have you seen a doctor?
