When/How did I get HSV

Ok, I posted last week that I found out I have HSV 2.
I knew I had HSV 1.
As far as I know, I never had a breakout yet.
My understanding is that a breakout will feel like a cold sore, but on
my genitals, I never had that.

Here is a brief rundown of my history:
1. I was with 1 girl until 2003.  First girl I had sexual relations
with.  She had 1 other partner before me.
2. 1 girl from November 2003 through May 2004.  She had an irregular
pap smear in 2001.  which meant HPV, but it cleared up since then, no
irregular pap smears since then.
3. 6 other women from May 2004 through this year.

Could I have caught it from 1, 2, or someone in 3?

I took the blood test in December and for the IGM it said:
HSV IGM AB W/RFX to TITER HSV IGM AB Screen - what is this testing?
The result - "Not Detected"

so that means I did not catch it in the last...3, 6 months?
If its 6 months, then that rules out #3.
If its the last 3 months, then #3 is still possible.

Just out of curiosity.. how did you find out that you have HSV 2 and how did
you know that you already have HSV 1.
(Just putting the pieces together)

How a breakout feels varies from person to person. Not everybody has those
"classic text book" outbreaks. 90% of people that have genital herpes don't
know that they have it because they don't have anything they can see or feel
to alert them to it. That's why it's important to make sure that herpes
testing becomes routine.

You could have caught herpes from anybody that you had sex with because it's
possible to carry the virus and not know that they have it. But, I'm curious
to know how you were diagnosed with both Types of Herpes Simplex Virus and
why you believe that you have both. (Trying to put the pieces together)

IGM is worthless, useless and you might as well toss those results out the
window and start over again. You need a type specific test and you should
focus on the IGG NOT the IGM. You might try checking out
www.herpesdiagnosis.com for proper herpes testing. Also, there is an
explanation over on Picking Up the Pieces in the files section as to why the
IGM is worthless.

The ONLY way you can know if your infection was recent is if you had a
positive culture and a negative blood test. Otherwise, you could have
contracted it from any of the ladies that you mentioned. Of course you could
always call each of them up and request that they too get tested but that's
not always going to pan out if they too have had more than one partner.

Hang in there,

Angela :)

I had a post last week called: "Have some Questions - any answers?" and
I described the tests and my history.

> to know how you were diagnosed with both Types of Herpes Simplex Virus and

Take a look at my post from last week and put your thoughts on it, I
would like to get your opinion.

I think the only thing you can know with some degree of certainty is
that you acquired the virus sometime earlier than three months
before your blood test.

Take care,

Mike
