I am in day three of HSV2 diagnosis and currently on Valtrex for outbreak.
I am considering to speak to my MD to start supressive therapy right away.
Do doctors tend to wait to see how many (and severe) episodic outbreaks
there are?
Thank you.

Doctors seem to be about as predictable on that as Herpes itself.
You just never know what they're going to do.
Frankly, I think that waiting would be a good idea. But it's your bod
and your money. If he won't prescribe what you want, I'd say find one
that will.

Treatment for Herpes Simplex Virus should be totally patient driven. So if
you want to start suppression that is totally up to you. I can't see any
reason why your doctor would keep you from doing so unless your immune
system was compromised by other health issues.

Yes, some doctors do prefer that you wait to see how many you have. However,
it just depends on the reasons why an idividual wants to be on suppression.
Some decide to go on suppressive therapy because their partner does not have
herpes simplex virus and this is another way (in addition to using condoms)
that will protect that person. Doctor's shouldn't really interfere with this
decision.
