Hello everyone,

A week ago a close friend of mine found out she had genital herpes. She's in
college right now and I helped her buy her first prescription of valtrex.

Unfortunately the insurance she has from her parents (who, unfortunately,
will not help her in this matter due to being upset about the sex thing) is
very poor. Two weeks worth of valtrex costs for her something like $160.
This isn't affordable for her. (and, if possible, she wants to suppress it
which makes it entirely unaffordable)

I've been reading about herpes and I came across some treatment information
that says there is a herpes drug called zovirax that has a generic form.

I know that generic drugs are generally much less expensive than
non-generics. Does anyone have any idea how much cheaper generic zovirax is
compared to valtrex? I know it depends on insurance, but maybe some price
range it would likely be in compared to valtrex?

I'm hoping there is some chance she doesn't have herpes.  Her test came back
negative, but her doctor is sure that's what she has.  I think it's weird
the test was negative though.

Anyway, thanks for any info!

My girlfriend, who has Kaiser-Permanente as her insurance, says a
30-pill bottle of generic acyclovir is around $5 a bottle.

Hello,

Thank you for the response.  Does she know how much it would be with out
insurance? (for comparison)

Thanks!

I'll ask.  Note that this was the 400mg dosage, which requires 3 per day
during the outbreak if you're on outbreak therapy.

It's worked for me, the only side effect is mild upset stomach.

Thanks I hope she knows.

day.

There are patient assistance programs out there and one in particular that
Glaxo Runs for folks that can't afford Valtrex. You should be able to find
the link on this page here:
http://www.yoshi2me.com/herpes-hpv-links.html
It's called "Bridges to Access."

The herpes antiviral medications are Acyclovir, Valtrex and Famvir.

On that link I just gave you (http://www.yoshi2me.com/herpes-hpv-links.html)
there is a section called "Herpes Meds" that has lots of information about
all the different meds people can use to treat their flare ups. Take a look
at that and see if it helps..ok?

What type of test did she have? Was it a type specific blood test or a
culture?

Hope this helps..
