What's a high level of antibodies?

Hi group,
A recent blood test showed what my doctor thinks is a high level of HSV1
antibodies; (I don't remember the number exactly, but a 3.3 sticks in my
mind.)

Based on my blood test,  and non specific urethral discomfort, my doctor
thinks I have genital herpes.

I'm curious: what IS a high level of antibody? Is a 3.3 high?

Thanks for your input,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Strictly speaking, it depends on the specific test, but practically
speaking, most tests seem to have a threshold of about 0.9 or 1.0
for a reading of "positive".  Below that and the diagnosis is either
negative or inconclusive.  (False negatives are notorious.)  So 3.3
would definitely be in the positive column, though I don't know if I
would call it "high".  If I recall, my antibody test came back at
around 6 point something, though I can't find my data sheet which
used to be right here in The Pile™ somewhere.

Hope that helps,

Mike
