Hello all,

A while ago I posted about my girlfriend and I both getting tested for
Herpes via the Western Blot.  Our results came back in August and
we've both tested positive for HSV-1.

Here's the kicker...she's had oral symptoms for years and as far as I
know, I've never had symptoms at all (except for now...more on that
further down).

When I look back, there was a period were I was getting absolutely
awful reoccurring yeast infections and during those I would end up
with little paper-cut like marks around the outside of my labia.  I
always figured they were from scratching and never thought anything of
it again.

Well, two night ago I found a little hard red bump and thinking it
might have been an ingrown hair, decided I would do my usual and try
to 'open' it.

Damn, it hurt and bled a little.  This morning it looks like a white
headed pimple and I can't figure out if I'm having my first typical
outbreak or if the bump was just something inconsequential and now its
trying to heal from my picking.

Short of posting digital photos, which I'm sure you would all
appreciate that I didn't do :o) I guess it's a guessing game but I
wanted to put it out there.

There was no tingling before hand, no itching, and right now all I
have is a bit of pain in the area of the spot and maybe a slight thick
feeling which I think might be my body trying to heal the damn thing.

My girl and I have a lot of questions come up about HSV so we'll be
posting them over the next little bit.

Thanks in advance!

I never did see the question but I'm assuming you'd like to know if
the red bump is Herpes or not.  You hit the nail on the head yourself
when you said "I guess it's a guessing game".  The only way to find
out for sure is with a culture type test next time it happens. But get
it done the minute you think you;re having an outbreak, otherwise
you'll increase the risk of a false negative.
As for my wild guess, your description sounds like an ingrown hair to
me. Doesn't mean you're not infected genitally, just means that the
bump you described sounds like something else.

Since you both are positive for hsv1, and I'm assuming you've both
been infected for quite awhile, the chances that either of you will
spread an infection to a new location on your partner is pretty slim.
Autoinnoculation (infecting oneself in a new location) is much more
common in people with a new infection, before the immune system is
geared up to fight it. Same holds true even if the source of exposure
is another person with the same type hsv infection.

Sounds like it may be "Molluscum Contagiosa".  No pain, small white
bump that looks like a pimple or ingrown hair but can't be popped, and
the bleeding.  Usually turns a reddish color and has a concave
impression in the center of the bump?  It's actually a wart like
growth, with a core hence the bleeding, that will go away on its own
or they can be removed by a doctor.

I've seen a few posts on here with people remarking on these types of
symptoms.  I wonder if molluscum is becoming more widespread?

I still read posts on here and I feel lucky to walk away with just
molluscum.  BUT, I'm thoroughly freaked about sex now and even the
slightest abnormality on my lip or genital area scares the hell out of
me nowadays.  Who knows what I'll break-out with in the future.  I'm
not even all that sexually active at the moment but still feel I'll
get something else someday.  There are some VERY kind, understanding,
empathizing souls who post here.  This forum is such a great outlet
for those with inquiring minds and symptoms of something out of the
ordinary.

However the one think I've learned or walked away with from reading
this site and seriously boning-up (pardon the pun) on STD's is the
fact doctors, medical practitioners, medical minds in general don't
have the slightest clue about any of these F***ing viruses.  They lie
dormant for years, people have it but don't show symptoms, money
making "viral inhibitors", oral to genital transmission, hsv, hpv,
false positive and negative testing, epstein-barr to shingles to
chicken pox...BLAH!  Sounds like any sexually active adult is probably
a carrier of something and there won't be a cure for any virus until
the year 2200, at the earliest.  Just hope your body has a strong
immune system is about all one can do, or maybe enter a monastery or
convent (but then you might get shingles or molluscum by sharing a
towel or toilet).  My heart goes out to those stricken with the
grandaddy of all the wretched viruses, AIDS...bless you all.
