I went in for a recheck with my doctor today. The culture he took
three weeks ago came back positive for HSV-1. My outbreak was in the
genital area, so I feel pretty confident stating that I have genital
HSV-1. My doctor did not reccommend that I go on suppressive therapy
unless I begin having frequent recurrences, although he did give me a
prescription for Valtrex to use for my next outbreak. He also said
that I have a cold sore on the side of my mouth, but I've looked and
looked and still cannot see it. I have noticed two blisters in the
back of my mouth on two seperate days, however, but the blisters only
lasted a couple of hours before they were gone, if even that. My lips
have been tingling as well. I did not kiss nor perform oral sex on the
person who gave the HSV-1 to me, hence the reason my oral symptoms are
confusing to me. Would it be possible for the HSV-1 to migrate to my
mouth area? My throat is sore as well, but I thought this was due to a
cold. I swear, every time I think I'm beginning to get close to
understanding this virus, the more it starts confusing me.

I too have genital HSV1...I don't get cold sores though. As far as I
understand, spreading it to your mouth is possible, but not common. Where
exactly are these blisters? are they inside or outside your mouth?

How does your doctor know that what you have in your mouth is oral herpes?
Did he do a culture on the sores in your mouth?
Here is a good web site that talks about the differences between type-1 and
type-2:

Also, Canker Sores are not to be confused with herpes.
