What are the differences?  What are the similarities?  Some of my
girlfriends have HPV, and they are trying to relate to me, but I feel
like I'd rather have HPV.

*GASP* HPV can cause CANCER! I read a statistic once that said something
like 80% of all cervical cancer was caused by HPV. Be glad you have HSV
instead! Also, there's a Vacine for HPV out there. I don't know if it's FDA
approved yet or not.

HPV is genital warts. It comes and goes like HSV but lasts longer and
removing it can be painful. Ever had a wart frozen off your finger? Remember
how bad that hurt? I don't have HPV... so I'm guessing here... but I'm
assuming removing warts from your genitals isn't very pleseant. I had a
female friend that had it and she was deffinately NOT happy about the
treatment. She said it was very unpleasent but didn't go into details. HSV
on the other hand usually just goes away on its own. And if it doesn't, you
take a little pill. I'd say HPV is way easier to deal with. The only thing
worse about HSV is "Herpes" is a very nasty sounding word... I mean, really,
it's just an auful word. They should rename it to something nicer like...
um... I dunno... but something better.

HPV can sometimes turn into cancer. Not all HPV types are the cancer causing
strains.

Actually - they are finding that the body can rid itself of HPV. Did you
know that?

I don't think herpes is a bad word at all. It's just a word. It's you say it
and the attitude that you project when you say the word that makes it not so
nice. Know what I mean?

Yes! I did know that! I get a wart on my knuckle whenever I hurt it by
slamming it in a door or something. When the cut heals I get a wart!
grrrr... Well, sometimes it just goes away... othertimes I get OCD on it and
whip out the exacto-blade. ;-)

HSV is Herpes Simplex Virus. HPV is Human Pappilloma Virus. They are two
completely different viruses.
I can kind of relate to what you are saying . . . I think I would much
rather have HPV myself since there is a chance that the body does rid itself
of HPV within the first year depending on the type that you have. There are
over 80 different types.
So, are you bummed out about having herpes? What's going on?

Hang in there -

Angela :)

I have both.

You still have to tell your partner.

HPV can cause some severe problems whereas herpes does not.

Treatment for HPV can mean some fairly serious stuff - freezing, lazers,
acid, etc.

Bottom line: both are stds and for the most part, incurable.  You and your
friends should commiserate together.
