Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping someone here can tell me something about allergic rashes. My son
(13 months) has developed a red rash on his chest and down to his toes. Two
people said that it was because he was teething. I think it has something to
do with my babysitter moving to a new apartment. He is otherwise fine. If
it's not gone by tomorrow I'm hauling him to the doc.

I know less about kids than I do about women. It's probably the
babysitter's new apartment, but I vote for the doc, anyway.
Take care,

My experience with babies is... they get rashes... lots and lots of
rashes... on their heads, on their toes, in their nose... everywhere... I've
dated several different girls that had children already and the kids always
got rashes and their mom always freaked out. I'm sure your kids fine but
take em into the doctor just in case (and to make your self feel more at
ease)

Hi Wanda,
There are many different causes for a rash. Food allergies are a common
one: corn, soy, dairy, certain fruits and fish, etc.
There's also contact allergies: laundry detergent, fabric softener, soap,
other chemicals, etc.
And then there are a host of ailments (other than allergies) that can cause
rashes. I'm not too up on those, though. Most of them would sound pretty
scary when occuring in a baby.
Definitely take him to the doctor.

Doesnt have to be allergic. Assorted childhood diseases can do this sort
of thing as the kid explores the microbial universe and chemical universe
that surrounds them. While I couldnt possibly tell you what it is I can
raise the on topic idea idea of HHV6 - infects 90% plus of kids by age 2
and causes an exanthema (rash like thing) in many.
I believe some bacteria and fungi can do the same as well as priming
reactions for allergies and say chemical sensitivity....so don't assume it
is anything on my list....only a doc looking at it can do that...
