LYSINE- WHAT'S THE STORY

ROBERTA - 05 Apr 2004 01:35 GMT
I was diagnosed with herpes when I was fifteen.  I received it the same day
I lost my virginity.  Life can be funny.  I have lived with it for over
fifteen years.  I know my body and when it comes.  My outbreaks are less
frequent.  They are guaranteed to come always when I am stressed and
sometimes when I am about to have my period.

Currently, I'm under a lot of stress.  I lost my job and have been
struggling to find another job....thus I have a MAJOR outbreak.

I do not have medical insurance so I can not afford Valtrex.  I do have
Lysine but want to know is it worth taking.  I have read that it is not
effective.  Please advise if you know of any risks or any other options
available for this temporary spell of no job and no insurance.

Thank you for all advice given,

Roberta

Hi Roberta,

Lysine works for some and not for others.  It seems to work better for
type1..but I can't vouch for that.  The thing to remember about taking
Lysine is that you need to take very large amounts - way more than what they
recommend on the bottle.

Hi Roberta and welcome to the group that cares.  ;-)

Lysine works for some and not for others.  The studies I've seen say
that it seems to work for about 30% of people.  I'm one of them.
All you can really do it try it.  I take a 1000 mg or so a couple
times a day when I first feel an OB coming on.

You can get extra Lysine (and less Arginine, which is thought to
help the herpes virus replicate) by eating the right foods.

Here's the famous table:

Take care,

Mike
