Hi, I asked before if anyone was pregnant.
I wanted to ask  another question, if it's ok.
I was reading about shingles. and was wanting to know if you can have an
outbreak of shingles in the genital area? OR if you can have a herpes
outbreak AND a shingles outbreak at the same time?
because I was under a lot of stress in the passed week or so and the
outbreak that I had at the begining of the month in the genital area
came back, ( last week ) but now I also have a quarter size round
blistery rash on the back of my upper thigh, and that is usually the
only place that I will get an outbreak, I spoke with my Dr. before about
my leg and he said, it might be shingles, I will show it to him when I
go there.
is it possible to have shingles and have the culture come back as
herpes?
or to have both herpes and shingles.
does this sound like a herpes outbreak on my leg. the outbreak in my
genitals seemed like herpes, because it was like a blister but it's gone
now.
also, does anyone know if there is a concern when pregnant if the
outbreak is on the leg and NOT the genital area, i think I only had two
blister outbreaks on my gnitals in the last 5 years.
do I make any sense to you?

Thank you for answering my questions.

Hi Kimmy,

Only your doctor and a culture can tell you what it is you are having.  Yes,
you can have shingles and herpes.  No, having shingles will not give you a
positive herpes test result.

A herpes on the thigh should not effect the baby during birth.  However, you
need to discuss all this with your doctor.

>Hi, I asked before if anyone was pregnant.

I hope I'm not.  ;-)

>I wanted to ask  another question, if it's ok.

We like people who ask lots of questions.  Really, we do.

>I was reading about shingles. and was wanting to know if you can have an

Probably, but I doubt if it happens very often.  Shingles is usually
associated with the upper body, or torso.

>OR if you can have a herpes
>outbreak AND a shingles outbreak at the same time?

Yes, probably, and that doesn't sound like any fun at all.

It's hard to say.  The Dr. is your best bet.

>is it possible to have shingles and have the culture come back as

Only if they have a big mix-up at the lab, but you have to hope that
never happens.

>or to have both herpes and shingles.

Now that's possible.  How old are you?  Shingles doesn't usually pop
out until later in life, like past fifty.

A friend of mine with herpes simplex gets quarter sized blistery
rashed on her buttocks.  It's not unusual.

With herpes there is always a slight concern, meaning only that you
should inform your OB/GYN that you have the disease.  Herpes is so
prevalent in the population that he/she will know what to look for.

The only real concern vis-á-vis herpes and pregnancy is when the
herpes infection is brand new at the time of delivery.  Since you've
herpes for a number of years, you have much, much less to worry
about.  Just inform your doctor, is all.

>do I make any sense to you?

Yes.

>Thank you for answering my questions.
>Kimmy.

You're welcome.  Take care and congratulations on the your...
condition.  ;-)
