Does anyone have any information about effective dosage rates for Acyclovir.

I have HSV 1 genitally and after 18 months of being symptom free now get
recurrant OBs. I have been taking 400mg twice a day between OBs and 200mg
five times a day during. After 14 months of on again off again OBs the
Acyclovir does not seem to be having any impact on either duration or
frequency.

Has the drug been tested at other dosage rates? Does body mass have any
impact on the dosage rate ( I am well over 6 foot and about 16 stone
(100Kg).

I am close to losing my sense of humour at the moment so would be most
greatful for any thoughts.

Spud

(Also taking 1000mg lysine daily and twice daily during OBs)

Hard to say what's changed Spud, but something apparently has.
Something in your diet? Stress level? Relationship? Sex frequency or
style or partner? Something that seems totally unrelated that hasn't
occured to you yet?
I don't know about the dosage levels but they seem about right to me.
How long have you been taking the lysine? I know in some cases it
helps, and in most cases it makes no difference at all. But at least
one prominent poster here reported that lysine seemed to actually
encourage outbreaks for him. Methinks he's not alone. Might not hurt
to quit lysine just to see if it has any effect, good or bad, on you.
I hope someone can answer the "body mass" question. Seems to me, way
back in my mind, I've seen something somewhere that says "yes" it
matters. But I haven't had my coffee yet and can't even remember what
a stone or a Kg is at this point.  I'll just take it to mean they add
up to lots of Lbs (and hope you haven't lost your sense of humor
totally yet ;-)
Wish I could pinpoint something but you'll have to keep looking for
the answer. My bet is that something, and it could be practically
anything, changed. As for dosages, and not that I'm recommending it,
but I've heard of people upping their Acyclovir dosage for short
periods without ill effect. The stuff has been around a long time has
proven to be pretty safe.
So much for my 2 pence  ;-)
