When we last left my update world I was saying that i had a negative
viral culture. My blood tested positive for HSV1 after going in for a
retest. My scrotum has pretty much healed at this point although there
is some minor scarring where the first spot appeared and a little
redness left where the last spot was. Despite the Valtrex being what
helped me in my opinion, my dermatologist is pretty convinced that my
symptoms were not indicative of herpes.

Best case scenario - HSV1 orally from childhood that no longer
manifests itself. Worst case scenario - HSV1 genitally that I got from
my ex-girlfriend from oral sex. Unfortunately the doctor is not
telling me either conclusively so I have to wait for a second
outbreak. I plan on telling any future sex partners this story that I
had an HSV scare at one point. But for now, till the next outbreak
occurs I am going to have to go by my doctor's advice.

Statistically speaking, what is the likelyhood of tranferring HSV1
from genital to genital contact. I would imagine as high as
transfering HSV2 from genital to genital contact. But a website I read
recently (and I can't honestly remember where, perhaps off Angela's
link page) said it was relatively low. The same website said that
while it is possible to have both HSV1 and HSV2 genitally at the same
time, the doctor who wrote the report has never heard of a cast
existing. Fascinating stuff.

Thank you everyone for the support you guys gave me through this. I
don't think I am out of the woods yet, but I feel alot safer now.

Good call.

Statistically, transferring type 1 from genital to genital is very
low. First, type 1 isn't all that happy about being there in the first
place. Otherwise there would be a lot more oral to genital transfers
happening. Second, once it's there and after an initial outbreak, it
doesn't usually outbreak or shed as often as it would orally or as
often as type 2 genital. So the opportunity for transfer is lower.
Third, so many people already have type 1 orally and therefore have
antibodies against further infection, there's a good chance a partner
is already immune to a second type 1 infection.
Having said all that, anything's possible. But a genital to genital
type 1 transfer isn't all that likely.

A "cast"?
What'd he mean by that?

Sorry, typo. I meant to say "case".

Support is what we're here for.  :)

It's pretty difficult to pass type 1 genital to genital.  Pretty much only
because that isn't its home base.  It prefers the oral region.  However, if
your partner is ill or has immune problems, then all bets are off.  I have
genital type 1 and as far as I know, I never passed it on to my ex after 17
years of being together.  I know that's not very scientific, but that's the
way it is.
