Increasing severity of OB over time

JB - 20 Feb 2004 22:24 GMT Hey,
I've heard that HSV OB severity should decrease over time. Mine seem to be getting worse.
I'm excersizing regularly, eating well, keeping calm, and all that jazz. So why would I be gettin hit HArder and harder (seemingly) with each successive OB?
FRUSTRATING!

>FRUSTRATING! Hi JB. The decreasing severity you've always heard about is only a general overall pattern, and individuals may enjoy widely disparate experiences.
It's one of those statistical things... you know, it happens to everyone else, but you're the exception.
I know it's been a while but how long have you had HSV?
Take care and hope it gets better soon,
Mike

Yuppers, all that. Plus, JB, the bright side is, time ain't over for you yet :-) If you've been infected less than a year or two, it's not really surprising your OBs haven't let up yet. It's seldom a slow and/or steady march towards improvement. An individual may have severe and frequent outbreaks in year one and two, then, suddenly, few and mild outbreaks (or none at all) in year three etc. Point being, even an individual may enjoy widely disparate experiences between consecutive years. Herpes is like that. We can see its patterns in the overall herpster population but it's unpredictable on an individual basis. In fact, that's one of the things that bothers me about answering the "what is the risk?" questions we so often get here. We can give averages, based on study groups of 100's or 1000's of subjects, but we can't know which individuals in the study group are higher (sometimes *much* higher) vs lower (sometimes *much* lower) than the group's average ... much less an individual here (sorry to get off the topic but I ramble at times ;-)

Tim Fitzmaurice - 23 Feb 2004 12:24 GMT > Hey, > > I've heard that HSV OB severity should decrease over time. Mine seem > to be getting worse. Remember this is an effect seen in whole populations. Its the trend that is likely to happen not what will happen. As such your individual circumstances can and will adjust the timescale of seeing this, or if it happens. There will be some whose body takes longer to accomodate everything and some who it never really changes as well as the general mass who folow the trend.

Angela - 24 Feb 2004 15:22 GMT hmmm.... I don't exercise regularly or eat well at times. I don't always stay calm. I don't get herpes flare ups like I did in the beginning almost nine years ago. What's up with THAT? ;-)

> Hey, > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > FRUSTRATING! jen - 26 Feb 2004 20:01 GMT my outbreaks seems to be getting worse to , i was infected by my first boyfriend, before we even had intercourse,,, figures huhhhhh :( but anywho, it seems to me the more i excerise the more outbreaks i get , i will get an outbreak once a month sometimes more, and as soon as i quit the gym for a month or two, i will have no outbreaks at all, i think something i am doing triggers it, maybe the way i stretch, some people say that doing yoga ( which is all streatching)and just working out makes OB better, not for me, so maybe thats what is making it worse for you, when i was exposed i was 15, had one severe outbreak and didn't get another one untill i was 20.wish i could skip another 5 years... anyway good luck...
Grant - 26 Feb 2004 23:10 GMT Hi Jen,
I'm assuming you have genital herpes?
It is common for women to get their outbreaks around their periods. Also, it isn't necessarily the working out that triggers the outbreak, but the sweating that goes with it, perhaps. Check the materials you are wearing and if not cotton, give it a switch. Also, if you're taking any protein drinks or powders or bars, then you may want to check the ingredients. Many use L-Arginine which can trigger outbreaks in some.
Take care, ar
