I've been reading some people claim that Ribavirin can cure herpes but
the US has made sure it isn't available here but that you can get it
over the counter in Mexico. It's called Vilona in Mexico. I have the
dosage amount and such to take to get rid of herpes but I was wondering
if anyone has tried it and if it really worked for them? If it really
worked, than I would drive down to Mexico and pick some up and try it.
Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks, GB

There is currently no cure for herpes, inside or outside the U.S.
Claims to cure herpes are all false.
Claims that the U.S. FDA is overly dictatorial in the medicines it allows can be
debated, but news of a herpes cure would be something even the mighty FDA
couldn't suppress, and there has been no such news from reputable sources.
Save your money on the Ribavirin (whatever it is), but Mexico is nice this time
of year anyway. ;-)
Take care,
Mike

To date... there is *no way* to completely wipe out the herpes virus from
you body.

Basically, it looks like it has been used to treat herpes zoster (that's not
what we have). And that it may work against herpes simplex. HOWEVER, they
said "treat." Not cure.

Cure?? Are you sure they are claming a cure (ie elimination of active or
activatable virus from the body) or a that its a viable treatment? Big
difference and one that is all too often used badly.

Er they've made sure it isnt available? Rebetol has it as a combo with
interferon as a Hep C therapy and Virazole is the US tradename for it. Did
they pull it all in the last few months?

Its got an immunomodulatory effect as well as its nuceloside analgoue
action and its known to be active against HSV from in vitro and animal
models. THat doesn't mean that the side effects in humans at therapeutic
doses for HSV are well described or how effective it is. At its core its
just another nucleoside analogue in the list. Without checking the
immunomodulatory stuff is relevant to HSV people can't be sure that
transfers (though I am fairly sure people are ooking at this).
So essentially you are staring at trying to get an antiviral off label use
wheich has a primary mode of action thats basically the same as all the
other ones, and its not exactly the cheapest of drugs from memory. Oh and
its got a well described teratogenic effect in animals - no one is really
sure how much that transfers over to humans, but then mostly they are
working on better safe than sorry....

Thanks all for the replies and info you provided!
It would be nice if it were
true.... but I am skeptical. Here is the site that has
the info on the cure for herpes. Read it and tell me what
you think? I'm really wondering if any one has tried it!
Could it hurt trying it? Can it be ordered online without
having to go to Mexico to get it? Thanks, Georgyton
go here and read this:

Come back and let me (us) know what you think here about the article
and if it's credible! Thanks!!

I didn't finish the entire article because the first two pages were so
full of misinformation I didn't see the point of reading further. Find
another source of information. That one is beyond ridiculous.

I can't understand why someone would make that up if
it isn't true?

As an exercise, try summarizing the information on that web site and see what
you come up with. Try to assemble any facts into an orderly form of some sort.
From what I see there, you'll end up staring at a blank sheet of paper.

I can't understand why certain people make up the things they do
either. Overactive imagination? Craving attention? Personal
entertainment? <shrug> I don't know, but I do know that it happens a
*lot* on the net. You have to learn to weed through that stuff.
I followed the link and read the page, the *whole* page, but the logic
it promotes is just plain flawed (and that's sugar coating it). That
especially includes his theory that somebody with a cure would
withhold that news, waiting on the market to grow. I guess he forgot
to take into account that his pot at the end of the rainbow would be
at risk from any number of miscalculations. Everything from a security
leak and/or somebody discovering the same thing he did, to some drug
company discovering *and announcing* some other cure *ahead* of his.
And that's just the tip his illogical iceberg. Fact is, very little in
the article is factual or credible. Basically, it's all BS.
-sorry- but you asked what we think, and that's what *I* think.

Thank you! That does help and I appreciate the time you took
to answer that for me. I thought it probably was BS, just
sounded too good to be true! Looks like I'll still have
herpes for a long time. I don't think there will ever be
a cure. I read in an old magazine that a cure would be out
for herpes in about a year and that magazine was dated 1985
that I got from a garage sale, and it sure was wrong.
Thanks for being honest though, that's what I want!
Have a nice weekend :)

This guy is full of crap. He doesn't even know how the virus is spread.
Why would you believe that he has a cure.
However, I think you have already made up your mind and really don't care
what we think. So, go ahead and try it. Let us know when you've been
cured. By the way, how will you know that you're cured?

You've got me all wrong Grant. I haven't made up my mind about it,
I said I was skeptical, maybe overly hoping since I just don't want
to deal with having herpes anymore but I was just seeking others
advice here, being that I know a lot of you here know a whole lot
more about it all than I do, so I just thought I would ask every one
here to save myself any disappointments had I went through all the
trouble of trying it. I only know by asking and if someone did
actually try it by listening to this guy's story and it doesn't
work, than I know he is all BS for sure. Yes, my gut feeling tells
me he is all BS but having this curse of herpes..... I do wish and
hope that I could get rid of it. So I'm always hoping I can find
something to get rid of it. Thanks for your advice, I appreciate
it! Have a nice weekend! :)
