Some asked recently if they stopped taking Valtrex does that mean the
outbreaks start again.

With me the answer is "yes".  I stopped taking it for almost 2 weeks
and I have an outbreak that is much smaller than usual.  But now more
are appearing.

It could be coincidence, but who knows.  So I'm taking it again.  I
liked the confidence it gave that I probably wouldn't have outbreak
and now...yuk!

How long have you had H and how long have you been on Valtrex.

I started taking the Valtrex again on the 3rd day after I felt the
tingling and as the blisters were forming and even then it made a
difference.  After 3 days the blisters gone and almost healed.
Usually it takes 5-6 days for them crust and start healing.  This drug
makes a difference for me.

I've had herpes since 1986 and started taking 1/2 gram/day Valtrex
first week in January after reading in the newspaper it reduces
transmission to another person by 49%.  When I thought the
relationship was over I stopped taking it.

And I was wrong about the relationship being over.  I'm very happy
about that, so I have another reason to stay on it.  He's pleased I'm
doing what I can to protect him.

After so many years you were still getting frequent outbreaks while
not on Valtrex? After you noticed a decrease in OBs? I ask because I
take 1 gram twice a day for a total of 2 grams a day and I still get
OBs once a month or so. (no signs just pain type1).

Considering the stress I have been under past few years, I'm not
surprised.  That is finally settling down, now that the divorce papers
are going thru.  I used to go for 6 months at a time without an
outbreak.  Sometimes even a couple years.  But with the stress it's
been 4-8 weeks between outbreaks.

So reduced stress will help with my all around health.
