I know this question has been answered, however, I do not feel like
searching all the threads. If a person already gets cold sores, are they
still able to contract herpes?
TIA

Yes.
If a person gets cold sores and the cold sores are caused by type 1 herpes,
then they can NOT get type 1 herpes orally again. However, they could get
type 2 herpes orally. However, having one type of the virus does give some
protection against the other type.
If a person has any type of oral herpes, they can still get herpes genitally
but, as stated above, having one type protects you from getting it again or
the other type.
I know that's confusing. Hope it helped.

Rich,
If a person already gets cold sores then that means they have herpes.
