Hello all,

From yuor experience can one have both ebv and herpes, i mean of
course you could, but is it common?

I have EBV virus, and i have a rash in my torso and lower abdomen that
doesnt pass, the doctor said it is not so common with ebv,
also i sometiems have starnge pain in my vagina (inside) i was checked
but there is nothing visible.

Hi Keren,

I have ebv as well.  Of course, about 99% of the adult population in the USA
has it.  It's a very common virus and has nothing to do with the herpes
virus...except that it IS a herpes virus.  :)  Well, you know what I mean.

I suggest getting one of the many herpes blood tests available these days.
What country do you live in?  I suggest the Herpes Specific Western Blot
blood test.  It's the very best but can be a little tricky to get done as
most doctors don't know about it.  There are also Elisa tests which are more
common.  And another new one that is quite good but I can never remember
it's name.  Just ask your doctor.

If you've ever had a cold sore, you're going to test positive, by the way.

Take care,
ar

Ar,

could you educate some of us and let us know what ebv is?  I thought
Epstein-Barr, but wasn't sure.

Thanks,
r.

Hi r,

Yes, EBV is the Epstein-Barr virus, one of the other herpes viruses floating
around out there.  The majority of the population has it but few have
recurring trouble with it.  Usually, people think they've got the flu when
they've actually contracted the virus.  I forget where mono stands on the
list but I believe the latest word was that the ebv was the cause of it?
Maybe I have that wrong - I can never remember....It used to be thought that
ebv was the cause of Chronic fatigue syndrome but I think that is no longer
the case.

Hope that answers your questions.  :)

Can you give me any links so I can read up on ebv? Mom said my brother has
it and I'm curious.

Sorry, Wanda.  I don't hang on to links.  But just do a google search for
Epstein-Barr and I'm sure lots of stuff will come up.

I have a mild rash around my navel, have always figured it was the H.

That's consistent with prodrome type symptoms.

>What blood tests can confirm herpes?
The Herpes Select ELISA is almost as good as the WB, within one percent, and
cost is less. Both can tell you if you have been exposed to hsv 1 or 2, but
can't tell you where you have it.

Best wishes...

I don't know of anything connected with EBV that would act as a
barrier to acquiring HSV, and since most people in the world carry
EBV, it wouldn't be going too far out on a limb to guess that yes, it
is very common.

The rash on the torso and abdomen sounds more like Shigles, or Herpes
Zoster than any of the other herpes viruses, and it, too, is quite
common.

>What blood tests can sonfirm herpes?

See if your Doc can get the Western Blot herpes specific blood test
from the Univerisity of Washington in Washington state, or one of the
type specific "GG" tests from HerpeSelect.

Let us know how it goes, and take care,

Mike

The rash on the torso and abdomen sounds more like Shingles*, or
Herpes Zoster than any of the other herpes viruses, and it, too, is
quite common.

Shingles is a recurrance of the same virus that caused you chicken pox
as a kid.  The rash may last a month or so, I think, but any pain
associated with it could linger longer.

Did your doctor rule out Shingles?

*fixed typo.  And expanded.  ;-)
