Again, please ignore the question about my kid on the above post.  It
was meant for another group.

My husband gets cold sores and I have contracted HSV1 genitally from
him (don't think I need to go into detail on "how" this happened!
lol)
Anyway, I thought I read somewhere that if you have HSV1 genitally
that it tends to recur less often than HSV2.  Do any of you know if
that's true?

Thanks.

Maybe you read it in Dr Sacks' book.  He gets quite specific about it.

Do you remember being here two weeks ago?

I have type 1 genitally.  My first two years were pretty rough.  But now I
go for long amounts of time without outbreaks.  I am actually experiencing
my first outbreak right now in at least 4 years.

Of course, I can only tell you about my own experience, and I don't
have HSV2 genitally to compare it to...but I don't feel like my OBs
are less frequent or less severe because of it being HSV1 genitally.

Depending on stress level and amount of stress...I probably average 6
to 7 OBs a year...and half of them I would consider to be on the more
severe side.

I know I read the something along the lines you have which made me
feel hopeful in the beginning but from everything else I'd read and
now with my several years of experience...mine seem to be about the
same as people who have HSV2 genitally. But...I'm not sure how to
compare it with out pictures and audio diary of OB, stress level,
eating habits etc of someone who 'should' be having more severe OBs
than myself.

That was pretty much non-helpful, wasn't it now hmmm? Sorry :)

C

"Most people infected with HSV-1 in the genital area have few, if any,
outbreaks after the initial episode, far fewer than is typical with
either oral HSV-1 or genital HSV-2"

This is true, but there are exceptions to this rule.  My first two years
were horrible.  The following years were still as regular as a type 2
person.  But now I rarely have outbreaks.
