Hi.

I'll spend the weekend reading through the group's posts and further
educating myself.

Found a blister on my labia (sorry if that's too much info) a week
ago.  Got the results of my culture today and I have it.  I was too
dumbstruck to ask my nurse which type.  I got my first bottle of
Valtrex today.  Yay.

I'm trying to decide what, if anything, to say to the guy that
transmitted this to me.

I'm devistated, confused and angry (mostly with myself).  I'm single
and was planning to begin dating soon.  This raises so many questions.

I'm not going to be the silent jerk that my ex was.  At what point do
I tell a guy that I have it and what do I say?  "Hi, my name is Ouch.
I'm a Taurus and have herpes?"

Thanks for reading my venting and thanks in advance for any advice
that you might have.

Hi there O.

There is no right or wrong way to tell somebody that you have herpes as long
as you do it *before* you have sex with the person. That includes oral sex
as well.

Hang in there ... it all gets better with time.

Hi,

Sorry for your diagnosis....

You can still call the doctor and ask about the typing.  If the doctor
didn't request a type, it isn't too late - make sure you get that
information.

You need to tell the guy who you think you got it from.  He might not know
he has it.  If you have type 1, he could only have cold sores and not even
know that it is transmitted to genitals through oral sex.  Etc.

I tell the guy I have it when it becomes obvious that we are heading towards
intimate contact.  I've been single since last December and I've told three
people.  The first one already had type 2.  (I have type 1).  The second one
has cold sores so he already has it.  The third is someone I haven't met yet
and we've been corresponding online.  He told me about a condition that he
has so I thought I'd tell him about mine - since we were sharing.  :)

Take care,
ar

I agree that you should tell the person you think transmitted it to
you.  However, given the length of time that the virus can lay
dormant, you might never be sure of who you contracted it from.

In my case, my first outbreak showed up about 5 months ago.  I have
only been with two partners -- an ex I was married to for 10 years and
a new partner I have been with for four years -- with a two year
celibacy in between.

The new partner has never had an outbreak.  The ex, I don't know but I
am assuming he has never had an outbreak...he would not be shy in
telling me.

I am sorry about your diagnosis....it will get better, that Valtrex
will help a lot.  If you find that you are having more than 9
outbreaks a year, consider asking to up your dosage....that is the
only thing that stopped my very frequent outbreaks.
