I don't believe it is dangerous. It is very common for people to
catch HSV type 1 as a child through people adults kissing them. HSV
type 1 is very common. Around 80% of adults in Australia at least
have HSV type 1 but most don't know they have got it because most
people have no symptoms at all. Having said that, it could well be
that your partner has the virus orally and is unaware of it and has
then passed it onto you via oral sex.
I don't know much about canker sores but certainly with HSV, if your
outbreaks are occuring in the genital region then it means it's highly
unlikely you will also get an outbreak around your mouth. Make sure
you are hygienic though and wash your hands thoroughly any time you go
to the bathroom or touch that region. I don't think kissing your
children is going to be a problem though.
All the very best.

Actually, the canker sores that you get inside of your mouth have absolutely
nothing to do with the herpes virus.

If you have genital herpes type-1 then the chances of you having oral herpes
is pretty slim since it's not all that common to have both genital herpes
type-1 and oral herpes type-1 simultaneously. You probably contracted your
general herpes type-1 from somebody that has oral herpes type-1. If there
has been a history of oral sex then that is probably how you contracted it.

I don't believe that you gave yourself herpes.

I don't think you have anything to worry about here. Your herpes is not
oral, it's genital.

Again, you have genital herpes based on the fact that you had a culture from
your genitals that was typed and came back positive for HSV-1.

Sometimes kids get cold sores and sometimes they don't. I think you are over
thinking this. Don't worry so much about the kids. I am glad to know that
your husband is going to get tested. Make sure he gets a type specific
herpes blood test.
Good Luck,
Angela
