I know this is going to sound crazy, but I know a woman who is taking
Neurontin for depression and she claims it can also be used to subdue
genital herpes outbreaks just as valtrex does. Is this possible? I think
shes off her rocker personally!

Thanks,

I don't think so.

But an antidepressant would definitely work to suppress herpes which are
triggers by emotional upsets.

May be a mix up - it can be used if I remember correctly for treatment of
post-herpetic neuralgia. Its not antiviral in any way that I understand,
and I guess it would help theoretically with stress issues - but my bet is
that they've read the section that says post-herpetic nerualgia and been
told it can be used in 'rare herpes situations' or some such.

I've never heard of neurontin being approved as a treatment specifically for
herpes simplex virus. Perhaps you are right and maybe she is a little off
her rocker?
