Hi

I don't want to be gross, but recently I have been getting what feel like
herpes prodrome in the anus. I am not sure why it would end up there after
having had genital herpes for about 12-13 years. Recently I have been
getting these odd sensations that feel like a crawling under the skin in the
anus near the opening, almost like things are moving in and around the skin
in there, and some itching too. The itching can be persistant even with
washing. There doesnt appear to be any sores or raw areas or pain. It seems
to be recurrent like happening once every couple of weeks or so.

I only get genital herpes outbreaks once every 2-3 months now, so it seems
odd that I would be getting additional herpes outbreaks at different
intervals and frequency aside from the genital areas. These symptoms have
been going on for a few months now, and I thought it would have subsided but
it hasnt really.

I don't have hemroids so I know its not that. I'm wondering if this sounds
like what anal herpes would be like and also how it could get there?
Autoinocculation? Would seem odd for it to get there from the genitals, but
who knows?

I didnt get anything cultured, just wanted to know if anyone in this group
has had experience with that.

Thanks,
Al

Sorry about the grammatical error in the headline. I'm tired and still have
to go to the airport to pickup a family member...need to go to bed! :)

Al,

You didn't realize that herpes outbreaks can pop up anywhere in the boxer
shorts area?

Hi Angela,

Yes I know you can get genital herpes anywhere in the boxer short area,
which is why mine are often on the groin and inner thighs, but I just
thought it was odd to have moved to that area all of a sudden and still be
present in the other areas where I usually get outbreaks.

Maybe stress could trigger something I dont know. I'm just kind of disgusted
because its really annoying to have to scratch that area and not something
you want to talk about really.

I should probably rephrase what I wrote.

When you have genital  herpes the virus resides in the sacral ganglia at the
base of the spine. So when the virus becomes active and travels to the
surface of the skin it can travel the nerve pathways and pop up anywhere
below the belt line.

So getting prodromes OR outbreaks in the butt area can happen.

Hang in there Al,

Angela ;)

Yes thats probably whats going on, because i have had what seems like a
prodrome in the anal area and then get an outbreak in my usual groin and
inner thigh spots. I am doing much better in general anyway. Now I get more
aborted outbreaks than anything, just prodrome and thats about it. The
outbreaks I do get are alot less common now and alot less severe, but I just
thought it was odd to come out there of all places!
