Hi everyone,
About 11 years ago, I had a really bad case of scabies.  The doctor told
me that not only did I have scabies, but her thought that thtere might be
Herpes as well, due to some open sores I had.  I've never had another
outbreak since then, nor felt any itching etc.  I've totally lost all self
esteem, and can't even strike up a conversation with a lady since, and have
been told several times that there's no way to test for Herpes without
having an outbreak.   All I want to know is, Does anyone know of a way to
test for Herpes WITHOUT having an outbreak?

TIA AC

You've been misinformed.  There are quite a few different types of herpes
blood tests out there.  The Herpes Specific Western Blot is the best, but
many doctors don't know about it so it might be difficult to get it run.
But, I managed to organize it myself and just had my doctor sign the
paperwork.

Anyway, the blood tests will tell you if you have type 1 or type 2, but they
won't tell you WHERE you have it.  So, if you've ever had a cold sore,
you'll test positive for type 1 (assuming that's what is causing the cold
sore).

Hi,
there seems to be a new development in the field of Herpes testing
I was reading about it on http://www.medical-health-care-information.com/encyclopedia/h/Herpes-Tests.asp

which says 'Herpes testing is done to detect the presence of the
herpes simplex virus (HSV). An HSV infection can cause small, painful
blisterlike sores of the skin or the tissue lining (mucous membranes)
of the throat, nose, mouth, urethra, rectum, and vagina. A herpes
infection may cause only a single outbreak of sores, but in many cases
the person will have recurrent outbreaks.

HSV usually causes cold sores (also called fever blisters) on the
lips. If you may have genital herpes, avoid sexual contact until your
test results come back. Although genital herpes cannot be cured, you
can reduce the risk of spreading the disease.'.

I thought I would share this info with you. Maybe you would want to
read about it there.

Regards
Monica

Slight correction to Monica's post....not that anyone needs it except
possibly those new
to HSV.  Not only can Genital Herpes not be cured....neither can
Oral.  Once you got it...
you got it.  So be careful!

I guess "new", especially in this case, is a relative term. Accurate
blood testing has been around for several years now (as opposed to
"not so accurate" blood testing for a few years before that). The
archives of this group, back several years, is also a good place to
find some pretty good information as well. Plus numerous sites on the
web.

Would this be your own site?

There are lots of ways to test for herpes accurately without having an
outbreak.

Your first step is to find a doctor that knows what they are doing.

Here's my herpes testing page of information about herpes testing:

Hope this is helpful,

Angela
