I am on daily Valtrex. I think its 500mg maybe 1000mg.
Even with this treatment, I always feel like I am in prodrone stage.
Is this possible?

It's not the norm but yes, it's possible. Especially if you haven't
been infected very long. Over time though things should calm down and,
eventually, you may not even need the Valtrex.  Meanwhile, eat right,
excercise, de-stress, don't over-do the alchohol or smokes, and do all
you can do to boost your immune system. There's lots of info in the
archives here and on the web about how to accomplish all that.

I believe I have been infected for a very long time. If my memory
serves me, I remember getting some type of outbreak more than 10 years
ago. I never did any thing about it, never got any kinds of tests  and
it seemed to go away. I forgot about it.  Since then I got married and
a few years later divorced. I'm now a young(34) single guy. I have
been tested recently and found out the bad news. That was over a year
ago. It seems that I have had the same issue for about that long. I am
much healthier than I was before. I eat better I go to the gym and I'm
on the daily treatment. It seems that I am doing everything right, but
it is worse than ever. Maybe it's all psychological now that I know
about it.

Jay,

Often times, it is psychological.  But there could be something physical as
well.  Are you using vitamins or protein powders?  Many contain ingredients
that may increase herpetic activity.  What type of prodrome are you
experiencing?

The Prodrome that I have is very subtle. I feel it every once in a
while through out the day. Mostly when I move or stand up or
something. But like I said I only feel it for a second then I won't
for a while. Almost like it just reminds me that I have it. That's why
I was thinking it could be psychological.
I take a multivitamin sometimes if I remember. I take protein powder
shakes once in while, but not very often.

Hi Jay,

We still don't know what kind of prodrome you are feeling.  Everyone feels
something different. I'm asking because what you think is prodrome might be
something else altogether.

Sooo the thought that you may be having prodrome is the reason you
went for a test after all that time? .... or was there another reason?

It's hard to say but yes it could be psychological. Like they say,
sometimes an itch is just an itch. And sometimes an ache is just an
ache.
Of course it's impossible for anyone here to diagnose your problem. It
could be anything from Herpes to a pulled muscle to a hernia to
psychological/paranoia caused by who knows what to practically
anything. But it seems you're asking yourself the right questions. If
you ever determine for sure what it is, be sure to let us know.

There was an outbreak that caused me to get tested.

I get a tingly sensation on the tip periodically when I rub on my
pants or a towel touches it or something. When I start ot feel it, I
apply DMSO. DO you know what that is?
Anyway, it seems to make it go away for a day or so. Then I start to
feel it again. Sometimes the feeling seems to move around a bit,m but
mainly in the same area.

A blood test? Or was it a culture?

>DMSO. DO you know what that is?

Yes. It's used as a carrier. Practically anything that's mixed with it
will be carried through the skin and into the blood stream. I know
someone who uses it for Arthritis and swears by it (he also swears by
VooDoo). Problem is, it's *dangerous*.  Germs or bacteria or anything
else that happen to be on the skin surface where it's applied may be
carried into the blood stream as well. Be very careful with that
stuff. In fact, I wouldn't advise anyone to use it at all. And unless
you're sure you're getting the pharmceutical grade stuff (not the crap
sold on the Internet), there's no telling what may be mixed in with
it.  If you feel you absolutely must use it, please be careful with
it.

And the Valtex has no effect.....  hmmm
I think I'd begin to wonder whether it's actually prodrome due to HSV
or maybe something totally unrelated. Maybe some sort of nerve damage
or something -shrug-
I'm fresh out of ideas unless you'd want to experiment a bit. Maybe
keep track of what you eat and drink to see if something correlates
with the feeling of prodrome. And maybe quit the Valtrex to see if the
prodrome leads to an outbreak. That sort of thing.
