hey, im vincent, and a number of months ago I started
getting herpes like symptoms. The symptoms were _like_
herpes, but didn't seem to look or act the same as
what the internet/my doctors described to me. My
symptoms were :
- White patches around the head of my penis
(sometimes the entire head would turn pale white)
- Bright red (against the white) sores that did not
itch or burn (unless I poured rubbing alcohol on
them, which caused a not too unpleasent warm
sensation)
- The sores would eventually crust over and heal,
but there was no liquid that would come out of
them when popped, and they did not resemble
cold sores as I have seen them. Instead of
liquid, I get what looks like large bits of skin trapped
in my foreskin (gross, I know)
- The sores were scattered all over the head
and did not necessarily cluster together.
- They have returned three times since, and
usually hang around for a week or so each time.
- When I got this, it had been many months
since I had protected sex, and all of the most
up to date STD screens were clear.
- Very often I would notice cracked skin on the
head, what look like fault lines widen during
this affliction and become more pronounced.
I have twice gone to the doctor to be swabbed
and tested for HSV. Both times, the doctors
did not diagnose me with herpes, and both times
the results came back negative. The second dr
worked at an STD specific clinic.
It could conceivably be a cleanliness issue, as
I am uncircumsized and am presently not in
the most clean surroundings.
Im terrified that I have HSV-2. I feel like I am
going crazy, because medical evidence and
drs do not see this as herpes, but it has
returned now for a third time. Has anyone else
with herpes experienced these unusual symptoms?
Could they really be something else? Should I
follow my drs perscription and just not worry
about it?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
Vincent.

Vincent ~
Nobody can diagnose you over the internet and even if somebody does tell you
what they "think" you have it still doesn't bring you answers. The only
thing I can suggest that you do would be to get a second opinion.
Good luck,
Angela ;)

Vincent,
What do the doctors think it is?
You can get a blood test for herpes which will tell you if you have it...but
it won't tell you where you have it. For instance, if you have ever had a
cold sore, then you will test positive for type 1 herpes--but you won't know
if what you have genitally might be type 1. It gets confusing...
Definitely get a second opinion. There are many things it could be.

As I mentioned, the doctors that I have seen do not
think it to be herpes. Numerous swab tests have
come up negative. I forgot to mention that these
breakouts are actually aperiodic, as I've had "flare
ups" that erupt and disappear within a matter of
hours.

Yes, you mentioned what they don't think it is..herpes. But what do they
tell you it might be?

Ar has a point because not everything going on is always going to
necessarily be about herpes.

The only thing that I can suggest is that the next time you do get an
outbreak.. to get in as soon as you can to have it cultured. Especially if
you don't have access to type specific herpes testing.
