Odd place

I know there is not much that is truly odd about the way that herpes can
make you feel. Physically, I mean. But sometimes I get some of the prodrome
kind of feelings that seem odd to me!

On the back of my right leg I have had a spot for a little over a week now
that has that bad sunburn feeling to it. Just the one spot. No other place
or kind of feeling anywhere. But I know that feeling and I know what causes
it. I have just never had one spot to hurt. It's always been a combination
of things. Eh, oh well!
If that's as bad as it's getting this time I'm not complaining!

Hi Wanda,

I will get my neuralgia in just one spot sometimes.  It really has to do
with the nerves and how they are effected.  And I think that's all kind of
normal for nerves.  :)

Hey Wanda,

I too get the funny prodrome feelings, but in the same spot where I
had my first and so far, only outbreak.  I have noticed that I get them
when I am in a stressful situation. Almost as if the virus is warning
me that if don't calm down it's gonna get me.

And I'm with you, I'll take the warning if that's all I have to deal
with.

I, too, had only one spot that had an actual, full-blown outbreak--on my hip,
which made the doctors think it was shingles. It was almost all the way
healed when I started the Valtrex. Since then, I've had all sorts of tingly
feelings all over that I've never had before and what looks like acne. It
must be the virus, even though I don't have type 1, because it has a tingly
feel and persistent pain. I even get that same sensation in my ear!Still, I
haven't had another "real" outbreak--just all sorts of odd symptoms all over.
Is it the med or is it the virus trying to find a new way out? Does anyone
know?

What your describing doesn't sound at all like herpes to me. Are you going
to check in with your doctor to see if he/she can help any?

Hang in there,

Angela

I've been to my doctor twice and I already don't like him. He's glib, talks
down to me, and always seems in a hurry. The first time I saw him, he
mentioned briefly something about going to a neurologist because I told him
that the outbreak showed up on my hip where I'd had pain for years. He didn't
even ask about it the last time I saw him, so I'm pretty sure he didn't write
it down in my file. I went to him because he's seen other women in my family
for years, but when I mentioned them, he had no idea who they were.  I really
think I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands and go to a
neurologist on my own and change my ob-gyn, although I have very little faith
in doctors in general. Years ago, I almost died because my ob-gyn didn't take
me seriously. He thought I was being a whiny baby when I actually had an
ectopic pregnancy and my tube was about ready to burst. (He actually
apologized to me the next day after they had to do emergency surgery.) The
problem with doctors is that GPs are too general and specialists are so
specialized they start to have tunnel vision. They're only human, like
everyone else. I've actually learned more about herpes from doing my own
research and from reading all the postings here from people who have
firsthand experience. Thank God there are people like you out here who are
willing to talk about it!

Tell me again why you want to see a neurologist?

So, after I sent the above post, I realized it might sound fairly rude.
Oooops!  What was actually in my head was this:

I can't remember why you wanted to see a neurologist.  Can you please remind
me?

My ob-gyn suggested it because I told him about having had hip pain for a
long time. Actually, I'm thinking I should see a rheumatologist.

I'm all about the pain.  I've had severe joint pain for most of my life.
Rheumies did nothing but want to medicate me.  But the reality is that I
needed to know what was causing it and fix the actual problem.  If you
haven't already, I suggest seeing a chiroprator to make sure your body is in
alignment.  My father developed severe hip pain suddenly, tried to get it
fixed for a while, finally saw the chiro who said his neck was out of
alignment...no more hip pain.  Then, I suggest seeing an acupuncturist to
help repair any damage to nerves, etc.

Good luck to you.

Or maybe it's something else that has troubled the nerve in question. Maybe
it's the same nerve that is troubled when  you have a herpes outbreak. Have
you thought about checking to see what your doctor might say about it?

I'm so sorry that you are feeling so bad.

*Hugs*

Angela :)
